@rvfabrice @GS_VCactivist how does a non rotating moon affect my description? The Earth rotates away from the moonface while waiting for the laser to return. So how could it bounce back to the same spot as he says in the video?

Eleven fentanyl dealers were arrested in San Francisco last week. Guess how many were immediately released by Gavin Newsom’s lawless California to continue selling fentanyl in San Francisco? All eleven…

exactly why @unclebobmartin is a legend, he gets it. SQL is atrocious! A few reasons why… Paradigm mismatch (declarative embedded into imperative), Security Vulnerabilities (nothing comes close to number of issues is software history), Impedance Mismatch (tables, rows, columns vs objects, variables), Tight coupling, difficult to test, Leaky abstraction, performance issues, …

🚨 I’ve published a new issue brief presenting evidence that young adult wealth, especially housing wealth, is upwardly biased in the Survey of Consumer Finances (SCF), a widely used data source for wealth statistics in the U.S. buff.ly/3yEjvs2 🧵

Though this is another way it's dangerous to have an obvious placeholder president like Biden, who clearly isn't in command of anything -- who is the real Commander in Chief? Since it's obvious to everyone it's not him, it might be a little easier to do a coup. (Though I think in current circumstances this is extremely unlikely).

A question I find fascinating - because my own understanding is so bad - is why military coups don't happen more often in certain countries with very powerful militaries (the US is the obvious example)? You have all this incredible force concentrated in one organization, and yet it doesn't take power, despite having the ability to topple foreign governments I'd happily read a (good!) book-length treatment of this question

I asked Java developers what they use to build frontends in Java and this is what we came up with. Do we like the categorization? Are we missing anything? Thank you to everyone who helped contribute to this.

@springrod @_JamesWard agree with James on Kotlin: coroutines, can compile into "native", Google has been supporting Kotlin for years. If I was forced back unto the JVM, Kotlin would be it, that is if I had a choice. Much love to y'all from Swift / Python / C++ ;-))

Working full time in Java again after more than 10 years is an interesting experience. I've done a lot of Scala, TypeScript and Python in the interim--of which I strongly prefer TypeScript. I'm thinking of blogging/talking/tweeting about the journey. #Java

It is hard looking backwards to convey the sheer astonishment that the Wikipedia model for collaboration, or the Linux model, worked. Wikis sounded like a literal joke or attempt at social commentary. Wikipedia is probably the greatest cultural achievement of the past 100 years

It does not grow automatically as a rise to a set of economic conditions, but fascism is a response to a social crisis. It cannot convert people to its ideas without seeming like a plausible answer to that crisis. When others see an economic crisis, it replies that it is really
Will Stancil@whstancil

I’ve always found the idea exasperating. Why would fascism grow automatically out of a set of economic conditions? Why would certain political ideas form magically when material conditions look a particular way? Fascism is caused by fascists, converting people with their ideas!

@SteveStuWill @WiringTheBrain conclusion is too generic to imply it applies to the whole world, which is much bigger and more diverse (in their parenting styles) than the western world! Results applicable only to demographics of the German children and their culture, coming from 2 states!
