We don’t have a new flag yet. Still Union Jack in the top-left-hand corner, like 3 other countries and several other British states and territories. Just after opinions on my attempt at one.
I deliberately made it like our Aboriginal flag, which I would be content to be Australia's flag.
But in a vote to give 60,000-year-old Aboriginals a voice in our Parliament. The majority, being 200-year blow-ins, chose to vote NO!
Which means few would agree with me on using our First Nations people’s flag.
So, I came up with the Southern Cross top left for the blow-ins and the internationally most recognisable rock on Earth, Uluru.
Former English name: Ayers Rock.
One comment: “What a beautiful flag, I hadn’t seen it before”
Another: “Did someone wipe their arse on this?”
I asked if you voted NO, but haven’t heard back.
Let me know your reaction, if there is an Olympian. Would he or she feel proud standing under our very own flag? My flag?
Entered in a Channel 9 flag Competition many years ago, it didn't win; I can't remember if there was a winner. But of the only 2 examples shown on the following morning's news, mine was one. Although I must confess to having it on the wall in my office, with many, even overseas visitors, staring at it for quite some time. And saying nothing was possibly just too polite.
