The current separate-but-equal system must change and we hope more CEC’s across the city take this kind of bold action.

@EVerhalle We are now in Phase III of the grant. Phase II “addressed segregation” by creating “new outreach strategies for the Middle School Choice program and the Gifted & Talented/Specialized high school programs...” 😩

@EVerhalle Our understanding is that a lot of the plan was already outlined in the grant application. PD is really important work and when it’s good, it can absolutely be transformative. We wish the process were more transparent and centered in real integration.

This year, District 30 received a $2.4 million dollar NYSIP grant, specifically to integrate the district. How is that money being used so far? It's going towards a series of shockingly unorganized, unfocused and poorly informed district-wide PD's.

This speaks volumes to how little our district's leaders value meaningful integration and the work it involves. We don't need echo chambers. We need leaders who care enough about CRE to actually invest in it. What a waste.

But @nycmayor, this is not “the beginning” as you said today. You’ve sat on these recommendations for over a year. We really wish it hadn’t taken a global pandemic for you to take action. And we really wish the action taken was more equitable.
