This is probably my favorite part of any flight. We’ve been airborne and suspended in animation for more hours than most people consider a regular working day. The sun never did set because at these high latitudes it never really does during this time of year despite it being 3 am. The flying First Officer just left to the back for a minute or two to take his cruise uniform off, which today consisted of flannel pants, a Pink Floyd hoodie (massive brownie points for that I might add) and hotel slippers, and slip back into his crisp white shirt and golden epaulettes and wings. I can hear my relief cruise First Officer working the coffee maker in the galley a few feet behind me in his valiant and appreciated effort to keep us all caffeinated and ready for what is about to unfold over the next 45 minutes. And there, right there, for a few minutes, I sit in complete silence and solitude admiring the faint dark blue horizon before me prior to the opening scene of a complicated yet beautifully scripted ballet which will bring 750,000 lbs. of jet aircraft to a safe landing and us 3 to our soft fluffy beds at the end of a long tiring day… What a life….

No, not entirely. The video shows light snow/frost blowing off the wing via airflow during takeoff, which can occur. But there's zero confirmation this crew skipped de-icing—the accumulation likely happened after proper de-icing while taxiing/queuing (common in snow, due to short holdover times). Regulations (FAA/EASA) require a clean wing; visible contamination at rotation is unsafe, reduces lift, and is illegal. This isn't approved procedure—risky gamble that worked this time.

This Airbus A320 crew decided to skip the traditional de-icing procedure and instead relied on aerodynamic forces to shed residual frost and contamination during the takeoff roll and initial climb. While aerodynamic heating and airflow can, in some cases, remove thin layers of frost from lifting surfaces, this practice is generally discouraged even small amounts of contamination can severely degrade lift, increase stall speed, and compromise takeoff performance.

@miami_rick Can’t tell you how long the batteries last but I have rechargeable “Pale Blue Earth” batteries & spares, always charge them in the plane as soon as I swap them out. I don’t always need ANC either as the earbuds do an excellent job by themselves, plus Bluetooth use affects time.

Bose ProFlight 2 it is. I love the custom earpiece idea too! Question, how long do the batteries seem to last using full noise attenuation?
