@cynthmc @ExploringAlway @PolitlcsUK Not talking about you. Talking about the ones that stop working the second they're entitled to state pension and all the trimmings. Country needs more people like you

@daholstead @ExploringAlway @PolitlcsUK I’m 65 still working and been working full time ALL my life since I was 11 with a paper round then in cafes at weekends and then part time after school to full time when I finished so don’t class all us oldies as spongers

🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham says he's looking at raising the personal tax-free allowance from £12,750 "It has dragged more people in - pensioners - and that particularly has become a growing issue"

@freddyaspinall @PolitlcsUK It’s not just 12.5k though. It will be way higher when you retire, also it’s your free public transport, winter fuel allowance etc. this is the problem. It has gotten beyond generous

@daholstead @PolitlcsUK We had a deal! We never complained about paying in to the system, knowing that money was going to pensioners. I’m 54 and by the time I retire I will have paid into the system for over 50 years. I think I will have earned my measly 12.5k a year

@freddyaspinall @PolitlcsUK True but almost 60% of the DWP budget is spent on pensions. Gotta deal with that as a priority

@freddyaspinall @PolitlcsUK Look at the uk tax burden now compared to what it was and look at how many people are pensioner age compared to any other time.

@markswfc4life @PolitlcsUK Tax burden is at a historical high. Current pensioners paid a lot less in to the country to get way more out of it. It’s really not that difficult to understand

@daholstead @PolitlcsUK Pensioners like me contributed for 50+ years from age 15 to 65+ then continued to contribute through volunteering, babysitting. Etc. I doubt if you contribute half as much.

@markswfc4life @PolitlcsUK Should they fuck. They’ve contributed way less to get way more and leave it on their children and grandchildren to pick up the bill. Fuck them

@daholstead @PolitlcsUK I doubt they'd be eligible, plus there's very few single dwelling properties available and not many being built.

@LunarPharos @Andrew_20_11 @PolitlcsUK The state pension should not rise faster than real term wages. It’s absolutely wild that anyone thought that was a good idea

@daholstead @Andrew_20_11 @PolitlcsUK That’s rather strange. Are you acting out of reason or emotion? Are we to cut benefits for the elderly today simply because we won’t receive the benefits we deserve in the future? It is not the elderly who are to blame for all this, but the government and the times we live in
