Extraordinary set of charts in the FT today. Twelve years of Tory misrule has left us sicker and poorer than our peers. Utterly disastrous. (Charts via @JolyonMaugham and @GeorgePeretzKC)

Same applies to domestic customers. GB domestic electricity was 26p/unit in first half of 2024 (average of Ofgem price caps of 28p then 24p); EU average was 24p/unit

For @JustinOnWeb (and the whole @BBCr4today team); Britain does NOT have expensive energy compared to Europe. The UK is about average. Data for manufacturers from DESNZ and eurostat. #r4today

@horton_official This is your semi-regular beg for you to come to blue sky because quite frankly more people interested in the environment use it than X now. By only posting here you're isolating yourself.

I am staying on X for now BTW as I find it useful still, and I like talking to all of you! Also want to keep posting accurate climate coverage & not cede the platform to deniers. (In context of the Guardian's official social media accounts no longer posting here)

@seb_kennedy Seb, do you fancy opening a blue sky account? I think quite a few people (myself included) no longer use X

I've been digging into EU gas market data for an answer to a burning question: which TTF futures contracts do hedge funds hold? Regulators know this but don't publish it in the name of commercial confidentiality. My latest for #EnergyFlux lifts that veil of secrecy.
💥Energy Flux💥@EnergyFluxNews

💥 REVEALED: How hedge funds are positioning on TTF to profit from EU gas storage targets 💥 The European Commission last week introduced intermediate natural gas restocking targets that added fuel to the fire of bullish bravado raging in the winter gas market. Traders evidently spied an opportunity to corner captive buyers. Today, exclusive data analysis by #EnergyFlux sheds light on how hedge funds are positioned along the TTF forward curve. It reveals a trading strategy clearly designed to exploit rigid gas storage targets. This Deep Dive explores: 🔧 The critical role of speculators in shaping TTF gas prices 🌊 Which TTF contracts the funds are holding, and how this has evolved over time 🌍 Why this matters for Europe’s energy transition and security. This isn’t surface-level analysis — it’s a proper deep dive into the financial currents influencing European gas and power prices. If you trade TTF futures or manage EU gas-related price risks, then you need to understand how hedge funds are positioned for the months ahead. The #A30 at #Honiton is closed eastbound between the A375 and A35 due to a serious collision. National Highways Traffic Officers are on scene dealing with the incident. There are no significant delays being reported on approach to the closure.

Dunkelflaute for tomorrow. 936 €/MWh in Germany and Denmark at 5 PM. Even during the energy crisis of 2022, day-ahead prices have never been so high. The difference with France, Poland, and the Nordics is striking. 1/4

Just to expand a bit, if a heat pump is noisy, there's something wrong with it or it hasn't been installed properly. The mandatory MCS 020 noise assessment doesn't prevent that.

This is deeply disappointing, as it's a) totally unnecessary bureaucracy, all heat pumps are near silent; b) unfair and discriminatory, as gas boilers are far noiser but aren't subject to noise assessment; c) undermines any benefit from removing the 1 m rule.
Dr Matthew Aylott@renewablewriter

@MingleDandy @Miatsf Maximum permissible noise limits will remain and all heat pumps will still need to comply with the Microgeneration Certification Scheme Noise Planning Standard MCS 020 to be eligible for installation under permitted development.
