This was the issue that was a red line for me. I was a lifelong Dem but their refusal to acknowledge or protect women/girls on more than just sports (ie bathrooms, changing rooms etc) was too much. Even now they refuse to apologize and accept culpability. They’ve lost me forever.

I hate that the democrats totally failed women and girls on this very clear issue of women’s sports being for females only.

@JoelleKovach Riel already knows there are user fees for registered use of rec facilities. The PPA paid well over $10,000 last season. He should know that too.

Riel now demanding to know how much pickleballers will pay as user fees for the courts at Bonnerworth. Commissioner Laidman says it's the same sport court fee as at any park - "There's no specific Bonnerworth fee - it's a set fee."

@JoelleKovach Actually, about 30 or so "protesters" were there. 75+ pickleball players and supporters were in attendance. The article might say "many," but, not surprisingly, the pictures don't do the event any justice.

I have a story coming on this, in The Examiner.

I went to the Mayor's New Year's Levee today, and there were 4 uniformed Peterborough Police officers just outside the door of the event space at the (beautiful) Canadian Canoe Museum.

@JoelleKovach It almost sounds like Mr. Finley is not interested in the types of families he believes would live in an apartment building in the neighbourhood....

"This is a very family-oriented neighbourhood," he says.

Finley is a librarian who says he's qualified to speak about heritage and the way you can "successfully combine the old and the new," in a neighbourhood (such as they have done in his hometown of Kingston, he says.)

@JoelleKovach The "friends" of Bonnerworth have never been shy about spreading misinformation. Strange that The Examiner hasn't reported on that...

Under other business: @MayorPtbo asks city solicitor Potts about an allegation, published in an Examiner article, that the city put up "roadblocks" to the Friends of Bonnerworth Park objection to the park redevelopment plan.

Anyone else hear @cityoftoronto is paying for hotels rooms for tent residents while @taylorswift13 is in town, while both could probably just afford to house them?

Riel said he didn't think it ought to be discussed in closed, and so he recused himself from the meeting. @alexbierk said the same.

In closed session, councillors discussed the application for injunction to halt construction at Bonnerworth Park. No hint of what was discussed; all but Riel, @lalalalachica and @alexbierk voted in favour of whatever was planned in closed session.

John Gerelus of the neighbourhood group that is urging council not to redevelop Bonnerworth Park. He says the city has gone forward with the 2-year, $4.4M project - "And let's be clear: it's a private club."

Rhea Shahe, co-coordinator of the Community Race Relations Committee, says that when she was sexually assaulted she reached out to KSAC - not police. When she was homeless, she went to CCRC. These organizations "do real work for us."

Canadians are mostly terrified & dreading a Trump victory but they’ll vote for Con premiers & potentially Poilievre as PM? As much as I can’t stand Trump, I can’t stand Poilievre even more. Trump = Poilievre Republicans = Canadian Conservatives Same crap, different countries.
