@Afinetheorem Not all of them, no - but that's a tad artificial, along with the selection of 5 fatalities, which excludes a number of high profile events with 10 or more casualties (eg Brown Uni).

Continuing good news: 1/3 of the way through 2026, homicides still collapsing. Toronto had had *six*. Boston has had *three*. NYC down 27% from 2025. Philadelphia down 38%. Baltimore down 10%. Each on pace for literally the lowest murder rate of all time in their city. 1/3

Amazingly, there have been as many mass killings in Europe as in North America (again, with the common definition of "5+ people in a public place) since 2024: Graz, Orebro, Cetinje and Daruvar. Indeed, more in *China* than the US: Beijing, Wuxi, Zhuhai. Surprising, I know. 3/3

@ajaltamimi He was in good company - there were no Arabic translations of Sophocles, Aeschylus, Euripides, Aristophanes, Pindar, Apollonius et al either. Then again, don't know of any medieval latin or vernacular translations of Arab or Persian language poets either....

@O_O_L__ @DanNeidle High Court Costs orders aren't commercial debts - interest rates are governed by the 1838 Judgements Act, the relevant provisions of the Civil Procedures Rules, and judicial discretion - in this case no HC judge would reasonably entertain an application for 10 days' interest.

An update on the attempt by a tax barrister to sue me for £8m. Last month, the High Court threw out the claim. The Court then made a highly unusual order: Mr Kamal was required to pay all of our costs, £146,644. And today I received payment in full.

@DanNeidle @O_O_L__ At the judgement debtors rate of 8% that would amount to about £320.00 - not worth the candle, or indeed the judicial ire, for trying to claim that on top.

@DanNeidle Having been on the "receiving end" of a £1 million pound claim from a vexatious litigant with fee remission you'd be surprised at how far the "penniless" can get.

@danielc27712614 Totally true. The "squeezed middle" is a very real effect when it comes comes to defamation. Really hard for a normal person can fight a libel claim as either claimant or defendant. But if you're a bit of a loon and either penniless or a billionaire: go for it.

@ayatr0llah Bit like Westfield really. My Cairene niece loves the Korean make-up stores, but finds the bubble tea a little disappointing....

@vcdgf555 @InsiderGeo For some reason, it's not been connected to the UK gov announcement/confirmation that Fairford is being used to launch "defensive" attacks on Iran....and Araghchi's statement in respect to that.

@portraitinflesh When I was at school back in the 1970's I used the "Jewish exemption" to get out of RE classes.....unsurprising as they 100% focussed on Xtianity, or some version thereof.

@SmartPark_Japan @David_J_Bier WRT Pew Survey of the USA - not sure that it really tracks well with the UK. UK is a significantly less religious country and the G0-3 South Asians/Turks/"Arabs" of muslim background I know are ALL highly secularised, and that includes the minority that do Friday prayers.

@danielc27712614 @David_J_Bier Your logic will breakdown here, I mean, you've interacted with me and I can narrate various instances from an Indian upbringing where Islamic related violence is quite prevalent. I am curious though, why ignore the pew survey in favour of your 'experience' in South London.

One in four people raised Muslim have left Islam, which means that all polls of Muslim opinion substantially understate the degree of Muslim immigrant assimilation since leaving Islam is a type of assimilation. In my post today I document how big this bias...

@SmartPark_Japan @David_J_Bier LOL! I've lived in India too (GF born in Calcutta, dad lived in post-48 Pondi). Albeit my personal experience of violence there related to the LTTE and their "disappearance" of a friend, and subsequently being caught up in a Tiger bombing in Colombo.

@SmartPark_Japan @David_J_Bier I'm pretty comfortable generalising my "personal" luck to the wider societal environment.....after all, I also interact on a daily basis with non-muslims whose "personal" luck seems to match my own.

@charliesmirkley Wonder what the Irish population was during the "troubles" period - Guilford, Birmingham, Deal, Hyde Park, Warrington, Docklands, Brighton, Airey Neave, Lord Mountbatten, Ian Gow, Downing Street, gosh I could go on and on and on and on........

Muslims only make up 6% of the UK yet were able do the London bombings, Manchester Arena bombing, London Bridge attack, Westminster Bridge attack and have grooming gangs across the country? This is also how they kill the frog. “It’s just 1% (81) 2% (91), 3% (2001), 6% (2021).”
William Dalrymple@DalrympleWill

Muslims make up just 6% of the population of Britain. Conspiracy theories currently being aired by right wing bigots that they are secretly plotting the Islamic domination of the country are the 21st century Islamophobes' equivalent of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, and just as idiotic, and as dangerous

@SmartPark_Japan @David_J_Bier You're confusing "apostasy" with the far more banal reality that as with their nominally Christian counterparts religion/religiosity just "fades away"...

@David_J_Bier This happens when muslims are under 5% of the population. Wait till they hit 20%, I will bet this percentage starts to rapidly drop.
