Just found this official decree from the Washington Governor’s Office…
They’ve officially banned aimless driving.
No more cruising. No more joyrides. No more “I’m just clearing my head, officer.”
You must have a lawful destination at all times or face a $1,000 fine.
Welcome to the People’s Republic of Washington, where even your Sunday drive needs prior approval.
Governor Ferguson has solved traffic congestion by making driving illegal unless you’re going somewhere productive.
Next up: banning “aimless walking,” “purposeless staring out the window,” and breathing without a five-year plan.
Washingtonians, start practicing your excuse scripts now:
“Yes officer, I am driving to acquire oat milk for my emotional support latte.”
This is peak 2026 energy.
Government: “We care about your safety!”
Also government: “But first, show me your destination on this here form, citizen.”
The only thing aimless now is common sense. Hopefully you got a chuckle. Now days I wouldn’t put anything past them.

@KalanisCalves They choose not to do this because people make purchase decisions based on the perceived price (menu price) rather than actual cost.
Show the actual cost and a large number of people will choose not to eat out anymore.

I rarely eat out.
Maybe once a month. Went yesterday to a restaurant (Italian, Mediterranean) in West Seattle for Mother’s Day last night.
Total for 5 of us ( we don’t drink alcohol) with one salad, humus and 3 vegetarian pastas was $97
The check said 3.5% surcharge for credit card. Then 17% service fee, mandatory.
Then tips were 20% 22% and 25% optional.
I asked if I could pay in cash.
No. They don’t take cash. Then how can I avoid the credit card fee I asked.
You can’t.
So I asked why the service charge.
It pays for the employees they said.
Then why the tip I asked.
It pays for front office staff
I don’t get it.

All of this is true.
I'll add to this: there are cities in Texas you can put down roots in and have rich cultural experiences. Dallas isn't one of them. If you ask anyone in Dallas to name any artistic, cultural, or historic points of interest they're proud of, it's crickets.

You can't just visit Texas for 3 weeks in peak summer and understand it, because that's not why it's bad. It's bad because it's late October and it's 90+ and you're questioning your sanity as to whether not it will ever end. 2. Dallas' culture, superficially seems good, but once you dig down... 3. Dallas living is about the airport. You save money in Dallas and then fly out all the time because being in Dallas is rough. Airline travel in the US has declined a lot, so this way of life works less well. 4. The driving. It's dangerous. You need a tank and you're going to be sitting in it all the time. Dallas sort of seems like a city but it's not really. It's more like an area. 5. You can trade 3% state income tax for better weather, more trees, and fewer problems. I think Dallas is a solid place to live in a bigger house with A/C and grind for money aggressively for a short period of time and then move out of. Other than that, unless you are tied down there (job, family), I can't recommend it.

The great thing is you have the choice. Mail the check. Go for it.
Or I guess next time the management company could just increase the total rent by 5% and not itemize the additional fee.
You’re paying for it, you just won’t know you’re paying for it.

Or better yet, make it illegal for the payment processors to charge a fee. We may no longer have the option to use credit cards, but at least no fees right?

Management company now charging me an extra $2.49 to pay my rent online via e-check. Tiny amount of $ but should absolutely be illegal. Tenants should not be paying these fees. I'll be mailing checks in the future.

Public school’s outside of HP are not great so you’re looking at $40k a year for private school.
