Plenty of people worry that Sam Altman might be evil, not enough people worry he might be dumb.

@quasimatt seems unlikely GC has more funds as a % than a16z. pensions are massive allocators to VC (15-30% would be my rough guess, idk) on accountability, looks like it leans more towards fiduciary responsibility to plan participants vs. an obligation to make ethical/moral judgements

GC has more pension funds and a16z is opaque. Pension allocators have some semblance of democratic accountability. The increasing availability of information synthesis via AI makes it more likely that a normal person or political figure will know and care about where retirement money is going.

The bet being made here (that ethical considerations and public opinion will play an increasing role in capital allocation to venture funds) is literally right and ahead of its time. After looking into the GC LPs, the messaging makes even more strategic sense.

@zherring so price aside, boox go 7 would be the right device?

@daranda admittedly, it's a niche but - boox go 6 is the right price, but reviews say it chokes when you turn a page on kindle - boox go 7 is probably performant, but 2X cost - termnl looks good but also more than I want to pay for something that my kid will probs grab and break

I can't believe there's no simple e-ink chess board in market. I've replaced all endless scroll apps with Chess.com. I love the headspace chess (even poorly) puts me in, but I dislike being attached to my phone to do it. A $100 standalone gadget like this would be so nice to have around.

current reality seems like monetization and distribution are separate (a writer gets distribution on twitter, then monetizes on substack) there are notable exceptions (youtube prolly the biggest to do both) micropayments as a tool to upend distribution platforms has been a longstanding narrative - but this didn't happen given distribution on the internet is now insanely hard outside of big platforms but i get that agents might change all that - if users interact with an agent as their primary media surface (and seems likely they will) - then yeah, whole new world, will be exciting

discovery doesn't necessarily change because of new monetization avenues. i think discovery in other interfaces is already happening rn ie. a lot of people have their agents scraping the internet for them to find interesting content - tweets, substacks, reddit posts. agents are their custom algorithm to online content. for example, this is actually how I found @DustinGouker 's substack which is great btw!!! monetization through these "external" interfaces is next but it really only can happen if YOU the creator can tie that content to yourself (ownership!!)

ok hear me out... i think the real reason agent-based micropayments matter is bc they give creators/consumers a shot at escaping platform lock in if monetization moves off platform and discovery isn’t tied to a single interface anymore, people start to care more about what they own than where they post owning content + monetization > platform loyalty

Today's news. I'm proud of what we tried and the team that got us here. Thank you @sama @jessewldn @lachygroom @tomhschmidt + scores of angel investors for betting on us. Thank you @adamludwin for starting a company with me. And thanks, friends and foes for trying our products. It was a fun 5 years.
Context@context

We started Context in 2021 with a simple goal: make web3 more fun. Today, we’re saying goodbye to Context Markets and Context, the company. Thank you to everyone who tried our products over the years: Context (the social feed), mint.fun (acq. @zora), rug.fun, meme.market, and context.markets. While we didn’t succeed commercially, we are proud of our contributions to consumer crypto. We’re deeply grateful to our users, early supporters, and financial backers. Thank you.

Some breaking news from the Jess household. We welcomed a beautiful, healthy and very hungry baby girl into the world last week. My god what a gift these past few days has been. My heart is full. My wife is very tired. Deeply thankful for the team I have around me that’s allowed me to be present for these first few weeks of life. We’ll be back with 11am streams shortly. We’re hiring. We have a big new Seed Club swing to share with you soon. Soon. But not quite yet. I’m going to enjoy the job of Diaper Changer in Chief for a few more days. xox

Looks like Polymarket is launching a stablecoin. Any large marketplace or exchange is one of the few clear examples where having your own stablecoin makes a lot of sense.
Polymarket@Polymarket

We've heard your feedback, and we're excited to announce Polymarket is getting a full exchange upgrade. Over the next few weeks, we're rolling out a rebuilt trading engine, upgraded smart contracts, and a new collateral token (Polymarket USD) to move off USDC.e. 🧵
