@webdevcody It's entirely American cultural sensitivities that drove this.

@saliozzia @andybudd "refactor everything" - usually by the same people who have developed a habit of writing shitty code. Turns out, compromising quality of code never returns on investment.

To me, minimum viable means we delivered the use case, but with shitty code. Possibly basic ui, but it has to deliver on promised value for the user. This gives us a test bed to test our general product hypothesis. Is this problem worth solving so much that the user will use our unproven software to address it. If the use case is valuable, then we move on to the next feature and release it shitty code as well. We keep buying the shitty code in more and more layers until we have enough customers that we can afford a manager of engineering that will convince us to refactor everything .

I think when people hear “minimal” in MVP they interpret that to mean “shit” rather than “narrow in scope”. They gloss over “viable” almost entirely, leading to a belief that MVP is short hand for “a shitty version of the product”.

@123voola @_neonsunset @fikrigha @ThePrimeagen I have been using C & C++ since 1996 and C# since 2007ish. I've worked both on massively multiplayer online games and high performance trading systems in both C# and C/C++. Well written C# will likely have similar bottlenecks to C++

@davefarley77 Just implement The word itself doesn't make developers angry but it's often in sentences that cause anger: "just". As in, "why can't you just implement".

@andybudd Most developers believe they’re in the production. Most businesses believe design is part of the production team. I believe they're in the R&Development department Therein lies conflict.

@mkolken There's been over 37,000 gun related deaths in the US. Over 500 mass shootings. I live in the UK, there have been 162 gun related deaths.

"People have heard about Uvalde, Texas. They have heard about Sandy Hook, Parkland, the Pulse nightclub, and other tragic mass shootings. But they do not hear of the AR-15 used in Florida by a pregnant wife and mother to defend her family from two armed, hooded, and masked home intruders."

@davefarley77 There are endemic problems in the games industry. There are of course specialisations unique to them, but like any other software company, most stuff is pretty boring. But sadly they eschew best practice.

"He isn't self ID he isn't trans". Oh yes he is. The press are only calling him "he" because he ASKED to be referred to as he, because his ONE REGRET in all this is not the incalculable harm he's done to that girl but that he might cause harm to the "wider transgender community".

Is there a name for the management anti pattern of trying to speed up a process by adding more and more controls to it which then make the bottleneck(s) worse? Example: requiring many levels of nested work items in Jira or similar even for straightforward work.
