@stephen_huang @jasonfried @Cadillac Production car, but low volume hand-built to your specs. Think Rolls-Royce.

A magical evening out on Carlingford Lough. Shooting from a moving boat with a tripod isn’t exactly easy but I’m thrilled with how this turned out - the rising moon aligned behind Haulbowline Lighthouse.

Ok signing off Replit for the day
Not a perfect day but a good one. Net net, I rebuilt our core pages and they seem to be working better.
Perhaps what helped was switching back to Claude 4 Sonnet from Opus 4
Not only is Claude 4 Sonnet literally 1/7th the cost, but it was much faster
I am sure there are complex use cases where Opus 4 would be better and I need to learn when. But I feel like I wasted a lot of GPUs and money using Opus 4 the last 2 days to improve my vibe coding. It was also much slower.
I’m staying Team Claude 4 Sonnet until I learn better when to spend 7.5x as much as take 2x as long using Opus 4.
Honestly maybe I even have this wrong. The LLM nomenclature is super confusing. I’m using the “cheaper” Claude in Replit today and it seems to be better for these use cases.

@SinoAutoInsight It's one of the biggest pain points for existing Rivian customers. Why wouldn't that be newsworthy?
English

The velocity of announcements like this needs to increase significantly. Why this type of announcement is even newsworthy is a bit of a headscratcher...

@dunne_insights Is that your new villa being built in the background?

@nateliason @iloveitaly It depends enormously on your support network, the health of both parents, if the kids have issues, the amount of $$ one can throw at problems etc.
For many people it is really really hard. Or they are one problem away from it being really really hard.
English

@iloveitaly To be fair I’m not saying it’s easy.
But every step of the way up to 3 kids now I’ve expected the next transition to be harder than it ended up being. Wife says the same.
English

I don’t think telling people “fertility is declining” does anything.
Better “pronatal communication” is telling people:
1. Having kids is way better than you can possibly imagine.
2. It’s also much easier than you’re imagining.
More Births@MoreBirths
"I just noticed that low birthrates are a problem two minutes ago, but having tried almost nothing, I conclude that nothing works." Here is a list to start with. None of these are incompatible with a free, liberal society.

@jamesbohanpitt @girdley I'm projecting based on lived experience in France, but I'd put good money the pattern is the same.
"Omg that chateau is cheaper than a 1 bed apartment in Sydney!" Yes, for a reason :D
English

@jamesbohanpitt @girdley If you don't need to make a profit (ie don't care about the restaurant), can easily afford the upkeep (roofs + pools + groundskeeping are $$$), don't want to be part of a community (ie visit a few weeks a year and don't care about the local grocery store), then go for it.

@colinalewis United are worse. But... that's not exactly a high bar.

For those of you who warble on about British Airways amazing ad campaigns, let’s see what Mike Scott of The Waterboys says. …
Mike Scott@MickPuck
I'm flying to Japan. Made the mistake of flying BA after swearing off them the last time I flew BA to Japan. They are the worst longhaul airline I know. Holy fuckin cripes, Batman, they are so rubbish.

@JoshPurtell @Kazanjy There were also *massive* wealth transfer/subsidies from other EU nations - nearly 250bn euro. This is by design - it's also why Ireland is so well-off now.

The secret to engagement is making fun of JIRA.
Peter Kazanjy@Kazanjy
A JIRA ad on something that hit you in the balls is pretty much marketing perfection.

@kurt The second panel of this strip has been living rent-free in my head for a while... xkcd.com/568/ . I wonder if/how AI will change that.

@smlpth Ask your friend for the size of "problem" in the IC5 definition. That might settle your nerves somewhat...
English

@DamienToscano @smlpth The IC3 description roughly matches the scope of L3 at Google, fwiw.
English

@smlpth The hardest part is to know how companies align on their level expectations 😅 I’m IC3 right now but it’s a IC4 at Google

@destraynor @JuergenLabermas @PilatusAircraft Their branding of the -24 as a "Super Versatile Jet" was genius. You can still land more or less anywhere, but you get more room, a cargo door, and more range.
English

The product marketing of private jets (in this case @PilatusAircraft) is truly next level. It's aesthetically beautiful, deep in technical detail, and aspirational at every opportunity.
