@RobertAJGagnon1 Hypocrisy knows no limits among some Evangelical Christians - the latest being Franklin Graham trying to prop up Donald Trump for his bad behavior; namely, his silly post (though offensive to many Christians) associating himself with Jesus.

@ChristopherHale Vance has no in depth understanding of Christian ethics and theology. The Pope does. Vance is quite out of his league in these comments

NEW: JD Vance, who converted to Catholicism in 2019, tells Pope Leo XIV to be “more careful” when “opining on theology.”

MAGA leadership takes another hit. Victor Orban in Hungary, Trump and Vance's favorite authoritarian leader, is out. Hungarian voters chose Peter Magyar who rose up in Orban's own party in protest against Orban's corruption. Will new leadership in Republican ranks rise up and throw out the current Trump corruption just as Peter Magyar did in Hungary?

The MAGA faithful take another hit. Alysa Lieu won gold in figure skating for Old Glory. But the MAGA can see only the Chinese connection. Or perhaps some will conclude that the judges were biased Democrats. They can't celebrate the extraordinary accomplishment of this individual skater.

I just exercised my right as a Member of Congress to conduct an unannounced oversight visit of the ICE field facility in Baltimore. The staff I met with respected my right to visit, but what I saw was disgraceful. Kristi Noem has a budget of $75 billion she could use to ensure humane conditions, but we saw 60 men packed into a room shoulder-to-shoulder, 24-hours-a-day, with a single toilet in the room and no shower facilities. They sleep like sardines with aluminum foil blankets. Whether it’s for three days or seven days, nobody would want a member of their family warehoused there. The room set aside for dangerous criminals and violent offenders was empty. We’re demanding immediate answers and action.

@average_joe1975 @RepRaskin Let’s see the evidence of a free plane ticket and $2600? And would that address the situation they came from? If they are in this country they were facing conditions in their home country were intolerable. You would probably make the same choice.

@RepRaskin Every one of them had the option to get a free plane ticket plus $2600. They are in that situation because of choices they made. Choosing to break the law should not be a comfortable experience.

@CharlesHuntNews @RepRaskin You are wrong about this. An elected official has the right to show up unannounced for an inspection. What do you want, facilities management to set up a Potemkin Village to hide what is really going on? This is democratic America not the former Soviet Union.

@RepRaskin You don’t have the right to show up announced. You have to give 7 days notice to tour a facility for your safety and the inmates.

Alexandre Lefebvre's, "A Mole in MAGA's Midst", is the best review I have read of Laura K. Field's new book, FURIOUS MINDS: The Making of the MAGA New Right.  It stresses, as does Field, why liberals need to take the intellectual underpinnings of the MAGA New Right seriously.  As I argue in THE ACADEMIC TRUMPISTS: Radicals Against Liberal Diversity, a MAGA intellectual is not an oxymoron. His (almost always masculine) ideas are both seductive and destructive.  They ostensibly embrace classical values, virtues and Christian beliefs. But the individualism, relativism, and secularity of liberal democracy must first be smashed in their view.  They would impose an American "Red Caesar" to do that.  Trump is their tool. Their ideas need to be understood and combatted.   lareviewofbooks.org/article/a-mole… amazon.com/Academic-Trump… amazon.com/gp/product/069….

Delighted to read the @nytimes review of Laura Field’s @lkatfield ‘s  Furious Minds: The Making of the MAGA New Right. This is first-rate scholarship on the intellectual voices behind Trumpism.  I agree that @ClaremontInst wants to wield a "wrecking ball" against liberal democratic ideas of tolerance, equality, and diversity.  Read more about the effect of Claremont on the large network of think tanks supporting Trumpism in my book Academic Trumpists: Radicals Against Liberal Diversity

Bad news today for the MAGA faithful. Trump promised no more foreign intervention but Venezuela shows that he is no better than Putin!

Donald Trump never read Ernest Hemingway. Tis a pity because Trump would have benefitted from the following advice: "There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.”
