On C64, multicolor sprites get only 3 colors, 2 of them shared by everyone. Ocean Software chose a drab pair of greys for Toki. I chose brown and yellow instead (just as in Creatures): he's a fire-breathing ape, not a corpse! #c64 #pixelart #juju

@DavideBottino I was lucky in that regard. I used the same hand for arcade sticks and for handheld joysticks. I've always wondered, though, why arcade layouts have the buttons on the "wrong" side for most people.

@CommodoreBlog I got one some time ago, didn't like it as much as the Competition Pro but can't remember why. Then I got a real TAC-2 which I liked better.... but the fire button doesn't work properly any more. Since I don't like the ArcadeR, too, I guess it's the amplitude of the stick 🤔

Tiny Quest II is still alive! You thought it was dead? I’ve got tons of work to do, and TQII now comes first. Once all the sprites are ready, we’re blasting off full speed. #C64 #Commodore64

@dfilskov I was rather poor at using an arcade joystick with my left hand most of the time. Too used to hold the C64 joystick in my left hand and push directions with my right one

@DavideBottino None 😬 - it cost too much & I soon got a C64 for gaming/creativity back then & later Amiga. A few years ago I did get OK at Bomb Jack, though (using my #MiSTerFPGA arcade), but not like my skilled arcade gamer friends. I might be better than them at Tetris nowadays, though 🙂

What still amazes me in Creatures 1 and 2 is how much personality those characters (and backgrounds too!) have. Animations, great use of colours and tons of little details make a completely crazy fantasy world feel alive and... believable!. #c64

Back when I solo-developed games with The Games Factory, I prototyped and iterated A LOT. On MSX, where @thegeps74 writes the code and has to sweat bullets to push Space Bash as far as the system allows, I focus even more on design to reduce rewrites to a minimum. #msx #gamedev

Before any of this, in 2004, I made a Bomberman-style game called MaxBlaster with The Games Factory. It starred the editors of Italian magazine The Games Machine as playable characters — "Max" was Reynaud, editor-in-chief at the time. My first published game, over 20 years ago.
