Games make the world a better place, even when they aren't trying to. Play is the primary form of learning and therefore the design of curriculum is in fact game design. Educational games put that truth front & center so they're going to continue making great strides.

@davidhmarsh Can I use this as a jumping off point to talk about educational games? Without sharing EVERYTHING you're working on, ofc, can you introduce me to your way of thinking about games & the future of edu?

@BigAbout47719 @SkyVirginSon We have the records from Rome. Their reactions to this faith spreading throughout the empire inducing common people to reject the idol and emperor-worship that Rome demanded. People who would follow every law but that one. It caused them enormous upset.

@SkyVirginSon Who writes history, the losers, or the victors? Rome won. The Gospels were written after the Roman Paul wrote his 27 book. 70CE and later. Nothing was written in 33CE. You are reading Roman propaganda to erase the Torah and G-D. Codified by Rome, and the Pope lives in Rome.

THE EXECUTIONER’S PROBLEM SHOCKING FACT: Why didn’t the Romans just produce the body? The easiest way for the Roman Empire and the Jewish Sanhedrin to crush Christianity in 33 AD was simple: produce the corpse of Jesus. The tomb was sealed with a Roman stamp. It was guarded by an elite squad of soldiers. Yet, weeks later, the Apostles were preaching the Resurrection in the exact same city where Jesus was killed. The authorities used bribes, beatings, and executions to stop them but they never produced the body. Because the tomb was empty. Drop a 🔥 if you serve a living King!

So, Merab Dvalishvili is a former champ, still in his prime, and about 150 pounds. Larry Wheels is probably about 270 pounds of muscle. Merab dominated and destroyed him in their friendly sparring match without even trying. Why? 1) Grappling is extremely non-intuitive. The thing you instinctively want to do on the ground will almost always be wrong against a trained opponent. 2) Fighting is exhausting if you haven't done it before. Even most athletes will gas after 30-90 seconds of fighting if they haven't put in a lot of time practicing it. 3) Most guys think they can fight. Unless they've actually trained, most guys are wrong. If someone told you he could beat Lebron James at basketball because he was taller, you would laugh in his face. Yet, if someone said he could beat a trained fighter because he was bigger, people go, "Well, maybe." Training matters an awful lot when it comes to fighting, just like everything else.

For nearly 200 years, critics have claimed Joseph Smith “wrote” the Book of Mormon. Okay. Then prove it. Not with assumptions. Not with ridicule. Not with recycled anti-LDS theories that collapse every few decades. Actually prove HOW he did it. Show the drafts. Show the outline. Show the research notes. Show the source manuscript. Show the co-authors. Show the revision process. Because what we DO know is this: A 23-year-old frontier farm boy dictated ~500 pages in roughly 60 working days with: • no formal education • no manuscript in front of him • no rewrites • no library surrounding him • no modern editing tools And somehow produced: • complex narrative arcs • hundreds of interconnected names • intricate Hebraic literary structures like chiasmus • ancient Near Eastern themes • internally consistent geography, politics, theology, and chronology Critics have proposed dozens of theories: • Spaulding theory • plagiarism theory • conspiracy theory • “he was a genius” theory And when those fail, some even claim: “The devil did it.” But that creates an even bigger problem. The Book of Mormon testifies of Jesus Christ constantly. In fact, the name “Jesus Christ” appears more frequently in the Book of Mormon than in the Bible when adjusted for length. Its entire stated purpose is to bring people unto Christ, teach repentance, condemn sin, strengthen faith in the Savior, and testify that Jesus is the Son of God and Redeemer of the world. So the argument becomes: Satan inspired a book whose entire purpose is to convince people to follow Jesus Christ? That completely contradicts scripture itself: “Satan divideth against himself and against none else.” (3 Nephi 18:20) The Book of Mormon leads millions to: • pray more • repent more • worship Christ more • read scripture more • strengthen families • abandon addictions • serve others • seek holiness That is the exact opposite of the fruits Christ warned us about when describing false spirits. Critics have spent nearly 200 years attacking Joseph Smith, yet they still cannot explain where the Book of Mormon actually came from. At some point, dismissing Joseph Smith requires more faith than listening to him. Because if he didn’t translate it… Where exactly did the Book of Mormon come from? One thing critics rarely acknowledge: The Book of Mormon is not just “about Jesus Christ.” It is saturated with Him. Jesus Christ is referenced 3,925 times in the Book of Mormon — roughly once every 1.7 verses. And that matters because some critics literally claim: “The devil inspired the Book of Mormon.” Think about that for a second. The same book that: • teaches faith in Jesus Christ • teaches repentance • condemns sin • calls people to baptism • strengthens families • teaches charity • testifies of Christ’s atonement • invites people to pray • repeatedly declares Jesus is the Son of God …is supposedly satanic? That argument collapses under its own weight. Critics still cannot explain how Joseph Smith produced the Book of Mormon naturally: • no drafts • no outline • no manuscript • no formal education • dictated in roughly 60 working days • deeply Hebraic literary patterns • internally consistent narrative structure So when natural explanations fail, some jump to: “Well maybe Satan did it.” But Christ Himself taught: “A kingdom divided against itself cannot stand.” Why would Satan inspire a book whose entire purpose is bringing people TO Jesus Christ? At some point, critics have to do more than mock Joseph Smith. They need to explain the Book of Mormon itself.

An analogue to this (kind of) exists in the US, it just ONLY exists in the most profoundly liberal towns in the USA. Incedibly strange that the only defenders of the classical "Dolce Vita" of Western Civilization in the US are hardcore rainbow liberals -- NOT conservatives. And before people say: "ah but in my heavily-Republican town, we have big town wide events in the summers!" I want to point out that that is not the same as what Megha is talking about here. Discrete "events" like parades and bandstands are totally different from "daily, by default, all informally mingling in a public outdoor space every evening." If you want the latter and not the former here in America -- sorry, but you've got to go to Prospect Park, the leafy lib quadrangles of New England, certain towns in California, the San Juan Islands of WA, etc. They are basically all uniformly expensive, incredibly gay, and deeply irreligious places.

Piazza-culture is extremely pro family and I'm experiencing first hand why and how. I live in a remote medieval village in Italy with my children and here, the tradition is for everyone to come down to the piazza in the afternoon/evening and just hang out. The parents drink a coffee or a beer, the children play together, often an ice cream truck shows up (selling real iced cream of course), elderly people hang around reading books, socialising and gossiping. Even though I don't speak Italian very well, I am learning so fast because of these evenings. My children don't need me to organize social activities for them because it is built into the society. I make friends easily with multiple age-groups of people. Childcare and motherhood has become drastically less isolating for me because I don't have to organize coffee meetings with friends that I put into my calendar and then it becomes a special interrupting event of the day, rather, we just all show up at the same place regularly and friendship and socialising is part of the rhythm of living. Children get fresh air and exercise in a natural way. There are dogs and cats that hang out and everyone looks after them; they don't pose a threat or nuisance to anyone. I notice also that although the piazza is packed with people every evening, there is zero litter, and everyone respects their surroundings. This wouldn't be possible by the way without the Italian way of being. You can't just put a piazza in any culture and have it work. The Italians are extremely warm and open-hearted and that's what makes this work. I know because I've seen similar physical settings in other cities and the coldness/insularity of other cultures precludes this kind of open social atmosphere. Italian piazza culture helps bring all those groups of people together who are normally isolated in capitalistic/materialistic societies: the elderly, the small children and the mothers. The main threat to this culture are foreigners who move to Italy for the weather and the cost of living, but reject Catholicism, Christ, family and the core aspects of Italian culture which are all about loving your neighbour. This little pocket of humanity in the world needs to grow. We need to protect this and we need more of it. If you want the benefits of a Christian society, you can't turn your nose up at the values that create it. (picture not mine)

@megha_lilly To be fair the translation where she called herself "whore" was taking some liberties with the source too. She didn't use the word for that. But it was in the right direction of Helen expressing regret while the new translation inverts the whole purpose of that passage.

When I first read the Odyssey it shocked me so much to see Helen’s awareness at her own faults and to see her call herself a whore, which does indeed describe her actions of adultery and licentiousness. The blame game is a crucial part of the psychology of the Odyssey, and Emily Wilson should be arrested frankly, for subverting the translation to absolve women of all fault. This is in fact just what modern culture does too.
Roman Helmet Guy@romanhelmetguy

Emily Wilson completely changed the meaning of a key word in the Odyssey to make it seem like Helen of Troy didn't blame herself for starting the Trojan War, when in fact the text makes it clear that she did. In 4.145-146, Helen calls herself κυνώπιδος (dog-faced). This is an insult meaning "shameless." It is commonly used to refer to unfaithful lovers. For example, it is used elsewhere in the Odyssey (8.319) to refer to Aphrodite after she cheats on Hephaestus with Ares. Fagles translates 4.145-146 to: "all you Achaeans fought at Troy, launching your headlong battles just for my sake, shameless whore that I was.” Lattimore translates 4.145-146 to: "for the sake of shameless me, the Achaians went beneath Troy, their hearts intent upon reckless warfare." Wilson completely changes the meaning of κυνώπιδος to "hounded" (she is trying to be cute by translating 'dog-faced' to a word that still relates to dogs, even though its actual meaning is completely unrelated). She then applies this word to the Achaeans, saying that they were hounded, not Helen. Her translation is in the image below. This is obviously an ideological change that she made because she personally believes Helen shouldn't be blamed for the Trojan War. She deliberated distorted the meaning of one of the foundational texts of Western literature to conform with her modern beliefs.

Most Christians already believe in a Mormon heaven. Stand at any funeral and listen, “I’ll see her again,” “he’s waiting for me”, they mean it the way Joseph meant it. Her actual face. Him, recognizably him. But that’s not what their churches teach. The creeds promise union, vision, dissolution into glory. Joseph Smith is the only one who promised you the person. And the only one who built an explicit path to keep them.
Kirk Rollins@nicoraytruth

"You forget that Joseph said the same sociality that exists among us here will exist among us there, only it will be coupled with eternal glory, and you forget the audacity of this claim. Every other religion in the history of the world has imagined heaven as something other than this, a dissolution into pure spirit, a union with the impersonal absolute, a beatific vision of God so total that all distinctness disappears, a sleep until resurrection, a vague communion of saints whose individual identities are softened into the general bliss. Joseph said no. Joseph said the friendships you forge here go with you. The laughter at your kitchen table goes with you. The particular way your wife laughs when something delights her, that goes with you, in her actual face, recognizable, hers, forever. This is so strange that we have nearly stopped noticing how strange it is. Sit with it. Heaven is not the dissolution of the self. Heaven is the perfection of the relationships the self has already begun to build. Your son who is six years old will be your son when he is six hundred and six thousand years old. The conversations you have not yet had with your wife will be had, in some upper room beyond the veil, in language you do not yet have words for. The friend you lost in your twenties, the one whose death you have never fully processed, is not gone. He is waiting. He has been working in the spirit world, the way Joseph said all of us will work between death and resurrection, and when you cross over he will know your name and the two of you will pick up exactly where you left off, except now neither of you will be in a hurry, because neither of you will ever die again." -- your pioneer ancestor

@romanhelmetguy Before you condemn Wilson's choices, you need to read her notes on the word choice and explain why they're not suitable. Her claim is that what you consider the proper word choice is a tradition of English translation, not the actual meaning. If that's wrong, please prove it.

This is nuts. Gary Newman, creator of Rust and Gary's Mod, just got banned from Facepunch. The forums that discuss his games booted him because he refused to condemn and disavow his coworkers and friends over anti-immigration sentiment. Moderators and forum users pressured him to publicaly condemn or distance himself from these views. He refused. Multiple moderators pounced, banning him in quick succession (a wall of bans pile on). Note that Facepunch forums was started by many of the former mods who worked for him. Ironic that Gary closed the original forums because of politics, in part. Now politics has come for him.

"You believe in a different Jesus!" You mean the Eternal God that was with the Father in the beginning? You mean the Word by which all things were created? You mean the Only Begotton of the Father? You mean the Great I Am who spoke to Adam, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Elijah, Jeremiah, etc? You mean the babe the Virgin Mary conceived through the power of the Holy Spirit and bore in a stable? You mean the Jesus that inspired all the heavens to sing Gloria Hosannah to mere shepherds watching their sheep by night? You mean the child who amazed the teachers in the temple? You mean the one mightier than John who was baptized of him to fulfill all righteousness? You mean the Messiah who healed the sick, made the lame to walk, the blind to see, the lepers to be healed, forgave the sinner, rebuked the Pharisees, and cleansed His Father's House? You mean the Jesus who suffered the weight of the sins of mankind, bled from every pore, was condemned by the Jews and crucified by the Romans? You mean the Jesus that died, broke the gates of hell to release the prisoners, and took life to himself through resurrection on the third day and broke the bonds of death for all mankind? You mean the Jesus that redeemed all mankind that they might not suffer the sorrows of sin and the passions of hell if they but repent and follow Him? You mean the Jesus that organized his Apostles and gave them authority to go forth preaching and baptizing in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit? You mean the Jesus that ascended to the Father and will come again in great glory and wrath to cleanse the Earth of wickedness bind the devil, and personally reign on earth for a thousand years? Huh.... Sounds familiar.

Double the tire height and add rim to get total diameter: 18" + 15.7" = 33.7" in this case which is still bigger than the wading depth. Source: manufacturer. Also I test drove one.
