I was skimming the Microsoft Build 2026 catalog, expecting the usual stuff. I was completely wrong. Then I saw these two sessions. First: Aspire for agents with @DamianEdwards and @davidfowl. I’ve been using and talking about .NET Aspire for a while now, so I’m really curious to see where they’re taking it next. Especially with agents becoming part of the story. Aspire already helps with a lot of the annoying parts of distributed apps: local orchestration, service discovery, observability, cloud deployment. Bringing that same developer experience into agent-based systems feels like the next logical step. Second: Union types in C# with Mads Torgersen and Dustin Campbell. This one is probably the session I’m most excited about. I’ve wanted better language-level support for this in C# for years. Results, options, state machines, API responses... so many things get cleaner when the language can model "this can be one of these known shapes" directly. Learning this from Mads and Dustin is about as good as it gets. This is what I like seeing from Build. Practical sessions that make you think: "Yep, this will change how I build software." I think AI makes Aspire more relevant, enabling agents to easily write code to provision the project's required infrastructure.

i very much hope it doesn't get defunded; the opportunity to become the defaco polygoot dev>test>deploy>maintain orchestration toolchain in the agentic era is enormous a good step would be a marketing / docs site redesign, taking ispo from more like a Vercel aesthetic rather than Redmond IMO. zeitgeist tooling needs zeitgeist branding to get a look-in @davidfowl

Aspire 13.3 dashboard and CLI features, day 4: Dread it, run from it, Markdown arrives all the same 😈 Markdown rendering in the CLI has been improved to support tables, lists, block quotes, and more. Check it out with the docs command: aspire docs get whats-new-in-aspire-133

This feature extends @aspiredotdev docs CLI command to supporting API docs too, this means your AI’s get versioned API—improving determinism and combating slop, grounding with reality. 🤓

Ever open a README just to remember how to reset the DB, run migrations, or mint a dev auth token? In aspire 13.3, you can codify those onboarding tasks as resource commands. Humans can run them from the dashboard; agents and scripts can run them from the CLI. #aspiredev

The aspire team is beginning to find a stride working with ai to build production ready software (this is challenging). This next milestone will be the first one where we have docs automated, better skills for creating pull requests and doing code reviews, doc writing and testing, end to end testing. Lastly the team has had some really “fun” learnings about how too much ai with little understanding of what was emitted can cork back to bite you 😬

I tested Aspire 13.3's Aspireify skill on a moderately big codebase today, and it worked PERFECTLY. It asked fantastic questions on how to deal with some edge cases. I should write a blog post about how fantastic this is. Great job, @maddymontaquila, @davidfowl and the rest!
