There is no reason to trust a man who's lived a life of violence with your daughter any more or less than trusting a man who has a documented history of abuse. Pretending there is any meaningful difference shows a lack of wisdom. Redemption is real. So is prudence. While I would not encourage marriage to anyone with a undesirable documented history, I would not prevent it either. I raise my son (don't have a daughter) to be discerning. If he chooses to marry someone with an unsavory past then I will trust that I raised him to have good judgment. And if he's wrong, like a proper father, I'll be there for him.

You can cope all you want but if there is an officer in front of your vehicle and you start to accelerate, that is assault with a deadly weapon, whether there was intent or not. That justifies deadly force.
