@MrJFinch Pre teaching key vocab makes all the difference. I am currently running workshops for parents with children in Reception and we discuss this.

@SimonCalder We were due to fly 7th from Dublin to Sri Lanka with Qatar and back on 25th. Got cancelled and we rebooked through London and Mumbai. Moved everything 2 days forward. Nightmare!!!

Edinburgh airport: a pair of Qatar Airways Boeing 787s on an extended stay at the Scottish capital’s airport. While Emirates and Etihad are resuming commercial operations, Qatar Airways is giving no indication of when schedules might start up. Instead, just rolling cancellations.

@MichaelRosenYes @PaulBushen @ballater6 @MuireannCait @johncosgrove405 @GillianSurgey I doubt my mother had time to read to me with 3 siblings following close behind, I don't remember her doing so but I was reading before I went to school!

So all the millions who've sat reading 'Dear Zoo' and 'The Gruffalo' with their pre-readers don't realise that their pre-schoolers should really be waiting till they're taught how to read before they 'appreciate' the books. Lols.

You aren't best placed to tell people what happens in schools and whether it works or not. I haven't met anyone who says telling kids "read for pleasure* works. But yet we (school teachers) still have to do it.

@SwailesRuth @JohnDougherty8 I just love the assertion that you can't 'appreciate' reading until you've been taught how to read! Just think of the millions of children loving being read to, and taking their first steps - at the same time - for reading themselves!

@devlin_jp We teach children to walk on the left on school corridors and stairs, no wonder the escalators are confusing.

This has always baffled me - why do we stand on the right on London Underground escalators when we drive on the left and so would be naturally more inclined to do our standing on the left and our overtaking on the right?
