I wrote ~4000 words on how I built Cartique, diving into the engineering and design challenges behind features like undo-redo management, auto-centering, canvas interactions, and more. deeepsig.me/cartique?v=1

you have to be a little obsessed and crazy to truly push on craft and design. smaller teams with passionate builders shine here. craft is spending 7 hours on the minuscule polish thing you thought was going to take 30 minutes but you keep going deeper. the thing that is absolutely of trivial necessity that most would think is a waste of time. sane people would compromise and find another solution. crazy people that eschew the standard way of designing and building common interactions, UI, and hardware just to see how it feels, or to tug at an inkling of a vision then do that about 100 more times throughout your product before you're remotely proud of it. it can't be outsourced or handed off to others to implement.

When it comes to more visual work, like animations, coding agents don’t quite know what great feels like yet. Here’s my way of fixing it: emilkowal.ski/ui/agents-with…

Fun fact: the Fellowship of the Ring wasn’t recruited, a bunch of them just happened to be in Rivendell Boromir came to figure out his prophetic dream Legolas came to report that Gollum had escaped Gimli came to get advice after emissaries of Mordor visited Erebor Maybe it was fated, but def not explicitly planned. And then when the need for a heroic world-saving quest came up, the remainder of the nine qualified largely by virtue of being there

Introducing Runbuds - a Strava competitor. For the past 6 months @rafsoh, @drqas, @gabfoulon, and I have been working nights and weekends to build a social running app that feels up to par with today's standard for consumer mobile experiences. Motivation + download link below:
