Hardware seems to be in pretty good shape now 🥳 Pi to arduino communication solid ROS can see lidar scan messages Encoder ticks from the wheels are good We ready to ✨attempt✨ SLAM 🗣️🗣️ Will need to get better wheels ofc and voice recognition still needs work so turn down your volume lol

Never knew debugging robotics could be this fun! It's so damn entertaining, feels exactly like a videogame. Can't stop playing 🎮🤖

Where are India’s Nobel Prizes? Before independence, a few Indian scientists did some really great work with minimal infrastructure. Today, our research baseline has improved- we’ve done some really great work, yet world-changing breakthroughs have slowed. Why? There are three reasons: > Our brightest minds are choosing corporate jobs or civil services over scientific research. > Modern science requires far more infrastructure & computation. > And India spends just ~0.6% of GDP on science & technology compared to the US and China. If we want to build a truly tech-forward nation, we need more quality students in science, and we must bridge this infrastructure gap.

Robots aren’t just the future — they’re already reshaping our world. At IIT Madras, the new M.Tech in Robotics, offered under the Department of Engineering Design, is building the brains behind tomorrow’s intelligent machines. From motion planning and control to AI/ML and hands-on labs, this two-year program blends cutting-edge research with real-world industry relevance — powered by a strong robotics faculty team and a legacy of interdisciplinary innovation. Rooted in the success of the Inter-Disciplinary Dual Degree (IDDD) Robotics program, this two-year program brings together expert faculty members and a powerful blend of theory and hands-on learning. From robot design and analysis to motion planning, control systems, and AI/ML, students dive deep into the science and engineering behind next-generation robotic systems. Add immersive lab work and cutting-edge projects, and you have a curriculum that’s as practical as it is pioneering. Manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, and defence — robotics is reshaping them all. This program is about building the minds that will lead to that transformation. If the future runs on robots, it starts here. For more details visit: ed.iitm.ac.in @iitmadras

im often asked “how do i break into robot learning without a phd?” buy an SO-101 ($300) and do something interesting understand the stack, train models, implement a paper, do serious on-robot evals, document your work the pool of talent with real experience is v small

wrote a blog on how i got started with robotic learning. how lerobot, a 3d printed arm and arxiv is *more* than enough to work on frontier robotics research.

What are the PreRequisites to build an Autonomous mobile Robot from scratch? I'm learning the basics from this prototype, aiming to understand, improve and iterate on it with my team over the next 6-8 Months.

basics of ros (robot operating system) if you want to work in robotics seriously, you’ll touch ros. it’s not optional. what ros actually is: not an operating system. it’s middleware. the glue between sensors, actuators, and code. the core ideas: • nodes → small programs that do one job (camera reader, motor controller, planner) • topics → message channels where nodes publish/subscribe data • messages → structured data (images, velocity commands, imu readings) • services → request/response calls between nodes • actions → long-running goals with feedback (move to this position) why it matters: robots are distributed systems. perception, control, planning, ai; all running at once. ros organizes the chaos. instead of writing one giant messy program, you build small nodes that talk to each other. modular. replaceable. scalable. start simple: install ros2 on ubuntu. write a publisher. write a subscriber. make them talk. once you understand that, you understand the nervous system of modern robots.
