Hardware seems to be in pretty good shape now 🥳 Pi to arduino communication solid ROS can see lidar scan messages Encoder ticks from the wheels are good We ready to ✨attempt✨ SLAM 🗣️🗣️ Will need to get better wheels ofc and voice recognition still needs work so turn down your volume lol

@catplotlib OH YES. Clean stack. Whisper to GPT to ROS 2 on a printed chassis. I need to try this exact setup.

@catplotlib Is arduino for motor control and pi for running ROS?

@catplotlib 'we weren't done with the hardware' is the most relatable lie in engineering. see you for the V3 redesign next week?

I lied, we weren’t done with the hardware. I did a full redesign of the chassis, and the motor brackets actually fit now instead of being held together with electrical tape lol. I also added holders for the breadboards and batteries, and swapped in shorter jumper cables to make some sense of the wire madness, and finally got all 4 motors getting power now. And of course, I had to add the pink LED strips. 😁

@GlobalTechFM Yes reprinted the whole chassis, every piece, made everything thicker too. I have bad eyesight so the wiring gets hard lol. Pink LEDS all the way 🤘

@catplotlib I know that phase well. Did you reprint the whole chassis or just the brackets? Getting all four motors powered with clean cable runs is harder than it looks. Pink LEDs were the only logical next step.

I called my bank, spent a full minute talking to an actual human, thought they were AI and asked them to transfer me to a live agent. The Turing test has reversed.

Personal news: I’m joining @GoogleDeepMind NYC this summer as a Student Researcher on the Robotics team! 4 years ago, I left Google to start my PhD. Now I get to come back and work on humanoid robot learning. Full loop closure, as the SLAM nerds would say. NYC folks—say hi!

@catplotlib OH YES! That's how you iterate. Dual drive makes these surprisingly capable. Love the clean wiring too. Very tidy build!

@catplotlib Yeah, that’s true. Maybe you could use a detection and tracking algorithm to find something missing in your home. The robot would then drive to the object’s location/coordinates once it’s detected. Just an opinion!

@___Mufasaa Yes i think i will need vision too, lidar alone won’t be enough for semantic understanding
