The most powerful protection against childhood depression is having a mother who values religion. When a mother and her child both said religion was personally important to them, the child was 80 percent less likely to develop major depression. Five times lower risk. That comes from a 10-year longitudinal study at Columbia led by psychologist Lisa Miller. It's the largest protective effect against depression she has found anywhere in the resilience literature. A decade later, Miller's team put adults from the same cohort in MRI machines. People who rated religion or spirituality as personally important had thicker cortices in the exact brain regions that thin in people at high familial risk for depression. The protection has a physical signature. The variable wasn't belief alone. It was shared, internalized importance. Mom and child both meant it. The strongest known buffer against depression in kids is a parent and child who share a faith that actually means something to both of them.

Yikes, so much is just poorly researched in that-which is sadly how a majority of mainstream Christians come across, even about their own beliefs, let alone when they try to explain others’ beliefs. 🤦‍♂️ Besides all the obvious incorrect statements made about the Book of Mormon in the first two paragraphs, I find it interesting they point out the forty days of Jesus’ visit after His resurrection, where we have so very little of what Jesus actually did during that long period of time. But apparently, so much happened during this time that, as John 21:25 says: “And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.” We know Jesus, before His resurrection, said when asked to heal a Gentile: “I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel” (Matthew 15:24), but He also said: “And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear My voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.” (John 10:16). The Bible never mentions Him personally visiting these other sheep. So Jesus must have visited other sheep around the world so that they might all hear His voice and be one fold and one shepherd. Which, as a Christian, you clearly believe means He is Christ over the entire world-not just the “Middle East area.” So why would He not have visited others around the world? It’s no wonder there are ancient traditions and fable stories told of a great white God or divine teacher who came and visited ancient lands all around the world. Thankfully we have at least one other of these ancient records (The Book of Mormon) telling the story of these other lost sheep - hopefully others will come about.

Yes and in Alma 12 the people literally had “hardened hearts” ( guess they are talking about their hearts plaque build up, and just the wicked all had heart attacks, right?) 🤦‍♂️ You ever read any other literate before, let alone any other ancient Hebrew literate - like say, um… the Bible? English/reading classes must have been fun for you. 😬 Hebrew symbolic/metaphorical language is often expressed through allegory and typology.

Alma 3:6-9 “And the skins of the Lamanites were dark, according to the mark which was set upon their fathers, which was a curse upon them because of their transgression and their rebellion against their brethren, who consisted of Nephi, Jacob, and Joseph, and Sam, who were just and holy men.” “...whosoever did mingle his seed with that of the Lamanites did bring the same curse upon his seed.”

Next week for Come, Follow Me, we'll read the story of the Israelites worshipping a golden elephant (or was it a donkey?). I can't quite remember the particular animal, but knowing the specific species isn't all that relevant to the moral of the story anyway.

Andy Weir explains how his main character in Project Hail Mary is inspired by the Gospel: "Did you notice that the name of the ship is The Hail Mary and it's full of grace? The main character's name is Dr. Ryland Grace. The Hail Mary is full of grace. I could not resist it." Luke 1:28 states, "And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women." Does this elevate the film?

Oh, you mainstream Christian’s need to start being a lot more serious. You guys always make ignorant, parroted statemets that suggest there is only one 'Christian view' versus the 'LDS view.' I would like to see how you evaluate all these diverse variations of the Trinity/Godhead ( all interpretations taken from the Bible) from the 45,000+ Christian traditions to determine which ones specifically qualify as being 'Christian’: * **Adoptionism:** The view that Jesus was born as a regular man and was "adopted" into divinity by God later in life (usually at his baptism). * **Arianism:** Jesus is a created being—the first and greatest of God's creations—but is not the eternal God. * **Binitarianism:** Belief in two divine Persons (Father and Son); the Holy Spirit is seen as the power or presence of God rather than a distinct Person. * **Docetism:** The belief that Jesus was purely divine and only *seemed* to have a physical human body (it was an illusion). * **Dynamic Monarchianism:** An early form of Adoptionism arguing Jesus was a "mere man" endowed with divine power (*dynamis*) rather than being a divine person. * **Economic Trinity:** A perspective focusing on how the three Persons *act* in human history (Creator, Redeemer, Sanctifier) rather than their eternal essence. * **Gnostic Triads:** Ancient views placing the Father, Son, and Spirit within a larger hierarchy of divine beings, sometimes viewing the Spirit as a Mother figure. * **LDS Godhead:** Three physically separate and distinct beings (Father, Son, and Holy Ghost) who are "one" in purpose and mind, but not in substance. * **Marcionism:** The belief in two separate Gods: a lower, wrathful God of the Old Testament and a higher, loving God revealed by Jesus. * **Modalism / Oneness:** One God who is a single Person but reveals Himself in different "modes" or roles (Father, Son, and Spirit) at different times. * **Monarchianism:** An early umbrella term for views prioritizing the "sole rule" of one God, often rejecting the distinct personhood of the Son and Spirit. * **Nicene Trinity:** One God in three distinct Persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) who are co-equal, co-eternal, and share one essence or substance. * **Panentheistic Trinity:** A modern view where the Trinity symbolizes God’s relationship to the universe: God beyond us, beside us, and within us. * **Partialism:** The idea that the Father, Son, and Spirit are each "parts" of God (1/3 each), only making up the full Godhead when combined. * **Pneumatomachianism:** A view that accepts the divinity of the Father and the Son but specifically denies that the Holy Spirit is God. * **Semi-Arianism:** A historical middle-ground view that Jesus is of a "similar" substance to the Father, rather than the "same" substance. * **Social Trinity:** An emphasis viewing the Trinity as a "community" of three distinct Persons united by their perfect relationship and love. * **Spirit Christology:** The view that Jesus was a human uniquely filled with the Holy Spirit rather than being the pre-existent "Word" of God. * **Subordinationism:** The belief that while the Son and Spirit are divine, they are eternally inferior in rank, power, or nature to the Father. * **Swedenborgianism:** The belief that Jesus Christ is the entire Trinity; his soul is the Father, his body is the Son, and his outgoing influence is the Holy Spirit. * **Tritheism:** The belief that the Father, Son, and Spirit are three completely separate gods who work together. * **Unitarianism:** God is strictly one Person (the Father); Jesus is a prophet or a perfect human, but not divine.

🤦‍♂️ This is why “scripture shouldn’t be of any private interpretation”. You don’t have the authority to properly interpret what the Biblical prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit to teach us. All 50k+ different Christian faith traditions aren’t all interpreting scripture by the Holy Spirit and also all disagreeing with each other on what’s being taught throughout the Bible. Clearly all are lacking the proper authority to interpret through the Holy Spirit for all of Gods people. • Your right, Gods aren’t formed - spirits ( even all matter) are eternal. We are ALL eternal and are ALL of the same “species” as God - “ ye are gods”. • Of course “God is spirit” - guess what, so are all of us (same species). ( you know, we die, and our spirits continue on until the resurrection where our “spirits will return back to God” ( remember also Jesus went and preached to the spirits who had previously died - oh and He actually had a perfect resurrected body that even now He has) ). Keep reading the verse and it then says we should “worship Him in spirit” (same species). You’re not thinking that the only way we can even worship God is to give up our bodies so that our spirits can then worship Him as a spirit, are you? He can and does have a body that can still be worshiped in the body, just like we can still be in the body to do the worshiping. It’s just our “spirits” that will be making the connection, and through the Holy “Spirit” ( 3rd member of Godhead (and still same species)) we will learn new truths, and be sanctified, and our “spirits” purified so that we can literally be even able to return to Him - and so our wills and desires become more aligned with His. This is actually the “being one” that Jesus speaks of wanting with His disciples that He and God the Father also already have. Of course Jesus was always God, even while in the flesh - how else did He die and suffer for all of our sins? You know we believe Jesus is the God of the OT right - so even before he got his body ( he was just Spirit) we believe He was and is always eternal God. • You’re telling me you don’t think we can become one with God the Father and Jesus Christ (“just like they are one”) - you saying you don’t think Christ had the power to make it possible that we can return and sit with Him on the right hand of God? Yeah, if that’s what mainstream “Christian’s” think … then yup we are different - and you guys are actually the ones preaching a different gospel then what’s in the Bible. All I’ve said is completely backed by the prophets and apostles words from just Biblical scripture. Get to know the actual attributes of God - it’s literally the entire purpose of life - he wants us to return back to him and all become one like Him: •John 17:3 “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ...”

At least you're admitting the heresy. No, Jackson, you will never become a god. Scripture is clear: "Before Me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after Me" (Isaiah 43:10). And "God is spirit" (John 4:24). Jesus is God in the flesh, not a man who became God, like you think we will.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches a very different Gospel than the Bible. Just a few examples: 1. God was once a man, and we can become gods (Lorenzo Snow, "As man now is, God once was"; Doctrine and Covenants 132) 2. Jesus is a created being, not eternally God (Doctrine and Covenants 93:21–22; Gospel Principles, ch. 3) 3. Scripture includes the Book of Mormon and others (Articles of Faith 1:8; introduction to the Book of Mormon) 4. Salvation involves works and temple ordinances (2 Nephi 25:23; Doctrine and Covenants 131-132) 5. God the Father has a physical body (Doctrine and Covenants 130:22) This is not the Gospel once for all delivered to the saints (Jude 3).

Well… just so you’re clear from what history shows. If there was any authority and keys remaining after the Apostles were murdered ( which we don’t believe since you can’t get revelation to call new local leaders without apostolic keys and direct revelation from God), but just for fun - it looks like it could have also been lost when the East and West split in 1054 and both sides excommunicated each other. 🤦‍♂️ Kind of a crazy story. The Pope sent a delegation to Constantinople demanding submission to his authority—a claim that wasn’t even codified for all Catholics until 1870 at the First Vatican Council. (And even then, scripture is clear: “No man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God” through revelation. (Hebrews 5:4). ) Clearly, Rome was acting on its own, not on a calling from God since by Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed in the 4th century, where they officially closed the door on new revelation. Well the EO patriarchs refused and then both groups excommunicated each other’s leadership. Looking even further back, in the earliest councils right after the Apostles died, Rome wasn’t even at the councils, wasn’t leading them, or even making decisions on doctrine —they clearly didn’t see themselves as having the right to speak for the Church as a whole for hundreds of years. The foundation Christ built through the Apostles was gone, and the keys to clarify doctrine and appoint leaders were no longer functioning. That’s why apostles and prophets are essential until “we all come to a perfect unity of the faith” (Ephesians 4:11–13). Without them, there’s no one with God’s authority to guide the Church, and the drift into error becomes inevitable. 1 Corinthians 4:7 - Paul is addressing a church that was trying to assign status to leaders as if it were earned and makes it clear that authority comes from God, not self-assertion of authority because of ties to Peter. Peter’s calling was from God, not a seat to be claimed later—so Rome (several hundred years after the Apostles Died)had no right to seize universal authority. The historical record lines up with what scripture warns: authority and doctrine has to come from God, not self-assertion, and without it you get apostasy ( 2 Thessalonians 2:3–11) - then, even with some truths, the Church can’t operate as Christ intended. Acts 3:19–21 “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.”

@ThoughtfulSaint This is DISGUSTING. Calvinism is not Christian, it's a 1500s man made perversion. I pray that all LDS will be able to distinguish the great apostasy (the reformation) from the true Church of Jesus (Catholicism). God made man out of love for love.

Why don’t LDS leaders debate whether the church is true… Because our faith is not on trial. It’s true And they are busy doing what needs to be done to build the kingdom given that fact. That is their calling. And that is how it should be.
