How do other people who lived through the 80s and 90s stomach what's going on right now? I find this extremely sad to watch, knowing how awesome the USA was.

Data Center “announced capacity” can mislead. By 2030, the pipeline shown here is about 102 GW announced versus roughly 41 GW derisked. Developers announce ambition early, but the economy runs on projects that survive interconnection queues, neighborhood opposition, utility timelines, and real capital discipline. The real constraint on AI data centers may be shifting from chips and power to public permission. A data center is not just a box for GPUs. It is a coordinated claim on land, grid access, substations, cooling, permits, financing, construction labor, and local consent. Data Center Watch counted at least 48 U.S. data center projects blocked or delayed in 2025, and Sightline Climate estimated that 30% to 50% of large projects slated for 2026 could be delayed because of power constraints, equipment shortages, and local opposition

What's a "lost" website from the early 2000s that you still think about today?

@JoelSercel It is definitely real, we're starting with bottles but this summer will start with some of the plastics common on the ISS in anticipation of one rugged piece of hardware that can be useful on and off world.

Imagine every pixel on your screen, streamed live directly from a model. No HTML, no layout engine, no code. Just exactly what you want to see. @eddiejiao_obj, @drewocarr and I built a prototype to see how this could actually work, and set out to make it real. We're calling it Flipbook. (1/5)

walking into a system design interview like “cdn, sharding, consistent hashing” where’s my job

people have been saying this for ~5 years and no one's yet proposed a single passable idea about how this would work in practice
