@CUlsaker I know many small ks schools have their last hr for middle school practices with limited gym space. Back in my recruiting days, I remember large Tulsa high schools practicing around 2:30pm. But not sure if those kids had to pick between band/choir and sports. My kids love both.

@derekjoiner You are correct! I haven’t looked, in depth, on how other states do it, but would be a great conversation to have.

@CUlsaker I’m not an educator. With block scheduling, 5 days a week at 2pm would still be two different classes? Or just 2pm on Wednesday’s?

@derekjoiner Block schedules would just be 1 class. Would count as an elective class. Not sure what you would do if you do 7 class periods! Something to iron out.

@SunflowerSmack @AsiaLee2026 @ONLadyEaglesBa1 @PreachaZo Most college coaches drafting 5 players would take Darryn Peterson but he's not first-team All-American. Braden Smith, all-time NCAA assist leader, not first-team All-American. Any list like this is subject to debate, which I welcome. Tough decisions across board, boys & girls.

@RodMurrow I don’t love it. Districts already deal with this at their level and what’s best for their community culture. It aligns with my faith but not others. Hurts small towns that share kids across activities and are short on facilities. Decent sentiment but unnecessary overreach to me

@JeffBarnes52 I like and get the message but maybe not the result. Likely already a troubled kid without great guidance and him sitting idle instead of participating in something is usually bad news.

As an AD, we made a rule: if a student-athlete quits mid-season, they can’t join preseason activities or the next season’s team until the season they quit is over. Purpose: hold athletes accountable to their commitment.

@jasonfitz There would be less tanking to lose maximum games. There would be some tanking for a fifth place team to lose if one of their guys got hurt. They might try for that playoff instead of the playoffs for the title. But two playoffs, one for the title and one for the #1 pick I like.

This would only incentivize more good teams to tank. If I know I have a pretty good roster but not good enough to win it all, I tank all season until the tournament knowing my team is actually better than the rest come tourney time. This won’t solve anything.
Legion Hoops@LegionHoops

DEVELOPING: The NBA is discussing creating a tournament among lottery teams to determine draft order in order to stop tanking. (via @ShamsCharania, h/t @flasportsbuzz)

@KevinOConnor The problem is you get stuck in being average in the NBA if you don’t tank. Reward teams for at least trying to be average. The non-playoff teams have their own tournament. 1st place 1st pick, 2nd place 2nd pick and so on. There will be small tanking going on but not as much

@tony_chapman76 I say this often. We are protecting NBA and college ball handlers more than our 5th-8th grade girls who have ridiculously less skill. They aren’t getting rewarded for trying to learn the skill.

Coached a lot of youth girls hoops this month. Really watching the concerning trends of participation in our state. Have a lot of thoughts on “the model” and why girls are quitting. - No need for second or third grade basketball GAMES. Skill development? Yes. 3-on-3 leagues? Awesome. - In youth volleyball, guess who refs the games? The other players and coaches. Police themselves. In basketball, girls get knocked over for 5-6 years and decide it’s not worth it in high school. I get it. - More players would play if we played FEWER GAMES that were better officiated. Just a hunch. “Hey mom, that was fun, I didn’t spend the whole game on the ground.” - I KNOW we have an officials shortage. But we have to SHUT UP at games at the JV and high school varsity level. Only makes it worse. On the other side…. - JV officials if you are getting paid, call the first HAND CHECK. Just don’t allow it. Then girls won’t get knocked over for 32 minutes and you’ll get a breather while they shoot free throws. I have seen way too many gruesome injures at the JV level the last few years. - Coaches!! I get the game has turned physical because of the whistle. But we can teach our kids to play without fouling!! I watched Bennington and Norris (on my TV, sadly) on Friday. Same for Elkhorn Valley and Central City. You can play GREAT defense without fouling. Promise. Ok. That’s enough. If you are playing in a conference tournament this week go have fun. Cut a dang net down. I hope I can watch your team soon. @PGHNebraska // #nebpreps

Many of you have likely seen or heard about the strange incident with an official during the Eudora vs. Bonner Springs girls game. You can find a look at the incident on the Eudora Live YouTube broadcast of the game at roughly the 56 minute mark: youtube.com/live/Tx4GKDa-o…

A wild scene at the Oxford airport Sunday capped the finality of what has been a crazy few weeks of will Lane Kiffin stay or go drama. After talking to a wide variety of sources, here's what went into Kiffin's decision to leave for LSU: cbssports.com/college-footba…

@tsnmike @OleMissFB “At Oxford, he could have remained for years”. Yeah, until he goes 4-7. Then all the people who are mad at him for leaving and upset about loyalty, would want him fired midseason when he starts the next season 1-1.

Lane Kiffin had a golden opportunity to show the sports world they’d been wrong about him for years. Turns out he’s exactly the person he’d shown himself to be. @OleMissFB invigorated his career. We saw how he repaid them. 👇 sportingnews.com/us/ncaa-footba…

This Indiana receiver catching the ball, then looking down while getting hit to get his foot in bounds is insane.

@SethDavisHoops I’m fine with going to 80. BUT, the best 16 teams are automatically in the round of 32. The other 64 play two rounds to pair down to 16. Re-seed those 16 to play the best 16 teams. Still have a chance for Cinderella but we don’t dilute best teams too early in the tournament.

Henry Ford used to say if he asked his customers what they wanted they would have answered “faster horses”
Doug Stevens@dougastevens

@JimmyLemke @SethDavisHoops There is zero reason to expand beyond 68. Zero. 99.9% of the customers are opposed to it. That should be reason enough. The fact that other sports have opened the floodgates such that the first round of those playoffs is a joke is not an argument.
