In Loving Memory of British Military Search Dog Zaddi 🫡🌈 who crossed the Rainbow Bridge – 10th February 2025
Born in Sarajevo as part of the HASD Z litter, Zaddi’s life was always destined for purpose. She travelled to the UK to serve with the British Army during the Afghanistan era, stepping into a conflict that demanded courage far beyond words.
The smallest of her kin, but never small in spirit.
Zaddi had the heart of a lion.
She was fierce, focused, and fearless.
A High Assurance Search Dog who walked ahead of soldiers into the unknown — clearing the path, protecting lives, standing between danger and those she served beside.
She did her duty without hesitation.
Without choice.
And when her working days were done, she earned the life every military dog deserves — love, safety, and family. Even as age began to whisper its limits, she never backed down. She fought valiantly through her final year on this mortal plane, holding on with the same determination that defined her service.
On 10.02.2025, this warrior made her final patrol.
Though her paws no longer touch the ground, her presence will always be felt — in the quiet strength of those she protected, in the hearts of her humans, and in the brotherhood of dogs who served.
Zaddi stood side by side with soldiers in this life.
She stands tall among warriors in the next.
Run free, little lioness.
We will meet again at the reorg.

We are very sad to share the loss of a member of our NFRSA family.
RPD Alfie - ‘Alf’ for short, and who served for an astonishing ten years with @WMPDogs and @WMPolice, slipped away with his tennis ball in his mouth last week and Darryl, his handler, shared his wonderful story.
“Alf was gifted to West Midlands Police when he was just 10 months old. The reason given by his then owner (who was in tears) “he was so destructive we can’t do a thing with him. He’s a pain in the arse.”
What should’ve been a 6 week course was completed in 4 weeks. Turns out he just needed a job.!
Alfie went on to work for 10 years during which time he found numerous amounts of drugs, cash and firearms.
On one occasion we arrived for our first early shift of the week. A shooting had occurred during the night in a particularly nice part of Birmingham and Alfie and I were tasked with searching for the outstanding firearm.
Arriving at the scene I spoke with the Sgt in charge of the search team.
“It’s a massive area full of all kinds of s**t. Could you just run Alf over it to see if he shows any interest anywhere. I’ll be in the van, give us a shout.”
In typical Alfie fashion, off he went like a stabbed rat, clambering over all manner of junk only to freeze. He’d found it.!!
The Sgt hadn’t even taken the froth off his coffee.
No matter what time of day or night, no matter what the weather or search conditions Alfie gave his all.
With his wonky front foot to his long whippy tail, he made me laugh everyday, he was a real little character.
This was summed up on one particular occasion.
Monday morning, refresher training.
The instructor “We’ve been asked to give a demo at HQ for some VIPs.”
Me “No, I don't do media”
Later in the day we found ourselves at HQ in front of 100 or so VIPs, all sat in a lecture theatre waiting to be amazed by one of West Mids finest.!
The instructor “I’ve hidden the gear (Drugs) in the electrical socket underneath the main screen so everyone can see him work.”
In we go and Alfie goes to work, gradually getting closer & closer to the drugs. Standing on his back legs, front feet on the wall.
I’m looking on like a proud Dad.
Alfies almost on top of the drugs when all of a sudden he drops what he’s doing and shoots towards the audience, running between legs beneath the chairs towards the buffet..!!
Oh dear, I thought.!
Alfie, having helped himself to a Somosa came running back whilst struggling to swallow the thing.
He then went straight back to the drugs giving a perfect “freeze” indication which got a round of applause from the now hysterical audience..!!
I reluctantly gave a “click” for a job well done and he come flying over for his ball.
As if things couldn’t get any worse and just for good measure Alfie started rolling around on his back all happy with himself and revealed his “pink lipstick”..!!
That was Alfie.🥰🐾
Following retirement Alfie went to many a shoot with my wife Jane and our daughter Milly, retrieving & flushing game birds. He was a natural.
He passed with a tennis ball in his mouth just the way he wanted.
It was an absolute pleasure and honour to have worked Alfie. He put a smile on my face every single day.
RIP Little man❤️”
What a little star he was - thank you for your service Alfie. Sweet dreams.

After three incredible years of service with Leicestershire Police, PD Nash has taken early retirement following a diagnosis of the eye condition pannus. Sadly, his eyesight has since deteriorated, bringing his operational career to an end.
Nash was an outstanding police dog and a hugely valued member of the dog section. Alongside his handler, PC 3031 Wilson, he formed an exceptional team, protecting the people of Leicestershire and Rutland, driven by loyalty, courage, and the love of a ball.
Throughout his career, Nash detained dangerous offenders, located vulnerable missing people, and recovered crucial evidential items, repeatedly proving his determination and reliability in the most challenging situations.
On his final ever shift, despite his diagnosis, Nash showed exactly what he was made of. Just 30 minutes before the end of duty, he completed a demanding 40-minute track through hazardous terrain within a sewage works, locating a suspect who had evaded officers and NPAS. A fitting final deployment for a dog who never gave up.
Now retired, Nash is enjoying a well-earned slower pace of life, most often found fast asleep on the sofa.
Thank you for your exceptional service, PD Nash 👏 A true police dog to the very end, and it is our honour to welcome you into the Thin Blue Paw family. 🐶🚔🇬🇧💙🐾

⚠️ We’ve been alerted by a community police officer in Bath that individuals may be operating in the BA1 and BA2 areas falsely claiming to work for Bristol Water. Around seven reports have been made since mid‑January. ⚠️
These callers are turning up in generic hi‑viz vests, with no Bristol Water‑branded vans or clothing, and asking to do things like “check boilers” on our behalf.
All Bristol Water staff always carry official ID cards, and you’re welcome to ask to see them. If something doesn’t feel right, please don’t let anyone into your home. This is a bogus caller. Stay aware and look out for neighbours who may be more vulnerable.
Please share this post to help spread the word.

Back to yard & asked for some to be offloaded. Boss refused & told him to drive as is.
Friend put keys on desk, put on his coat & walked away.

@DC_PoliceDogs 3. File size vs duration mismatch
X enforces limits that aren’t always clearly explained in-app.
Typical limits:
~140 seconds
~512 MB for most users
iPhone videos can exceed size limits even if they’re short, due to high bitrate.
Fix:
Trim duration or compress before upload
