@JackPosobiec I was just thinking about that. I kinda understand letting in Koreans and Vietnamese refugees. We participated in those wars as their allies and they fought along side us. But why let in millions of Muslims after 9/11 showed they hate us and want us dead? Why Somalis? Or Syrians?
English

@CSMFHT Zachary. And it’s shocking to me that Wendy is so modern.
English

@Tawadros15 @OrdinariateUSA Would this apply to a Spanish or Vietnamese language mass? A Newman center? So no one can go to an oratory or convent or shrine or cathedral? What if another parish has ccd and gurus doesn’t?
English

@OrdinariateUSA 100% you are bound to attend your geographical parish and this driving 2 hours to go to the perfect Mass for you esthetically is foreign to historic Catholic thought. If you don't like your local parish work to change it. It's worked at mine
English

Parish hopping is an inherently Protestant activity
You’re looking for what the parish can do for you.
Bad music? Boomerism? Ugly building? No matter, just leave and find a parish you do like! Once you get bored of that one, go try another one.
Disagree with the practices of your parish? No matter, just ‘protest’ them by leaving.
For most of history, the parish was where the local Catholic community met. We need to bring this mentality back, in my opinion.
If something’s off, be the change you want to see.

@PaulinusOfTrier I was at a mass where the celebrant paraphrased the gospel from memory and rather than reading it. He also paraphrased the Eucharistic prayers. Paulist ar Berkeley in about 2004.
English

Has anyone actually been at a Mass where there was liturgical abuse, as opposed to seeing it on internet? I have seen these examples. (1) use of crockery at a Mass instead of proper vessels. (2) untrained volunteers being given the role of extraordinary ministers of holy communion resulting in compounded abuses. (3) refusal to give communion to a person who was kneeling for it.

@TrinityMustache @Recursion_Agent Maybe they thought it was a synagogue identifying as a mosque?
English

Based on this manifesto, it seems entirely possible the San Diego shooters intended to target a Jewish synagogue and ended up at a mosque because they’re idiots.
Drew Pavlou 🇦🇺🇺🇸🇺🇦🇹🇼@DrewPavlou
The two extreme-right terrorists who tried to shoot up the San Diego Mosque wrote a manifesto blaming Jews for all world problems

@lukei4655 I refer to Wojtila and Ratzinger for their scholarship before becoming pope.
English

This also upsets me. However I admit that it’s complicated when you refer to her life and work prior to entering Carmel.
Theologia Scholastica@theoscholastica
Am I the only one who doesn't like it when people call St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, "Edith Stein"?

The mayor of Charlotte, NC asks that we not post about this lady murdered on a Charlotte train by a repeat offender with 14 prior arrests!
I say in Iryna’s memory please share and make this go viral! A repeat offender with 14 prior arrests should not be roaming the streets of ANY city! They should be locked up!! Epic failure in the justice system!

English

@mattvanswol @PramilaJayapal If you think you have a right that others serve you then you are in favor of slavery.
English

@PramilaJayapal A right is something government can't take from you. Healthcare is a SERVICE, performed by a human being.
My father, brother, and sister are ALL doctors and they went to school for a DECADE.
You are not entitled to their labor. Nobody is.
English

@ModestTeacher If all 8 billion people on earth shuffled a deck every 1 second until the sun becomes a red giant in 5 billion years, we would be a million times short of reaching 50% probability of a repeat. 2 people picking the same atom in the Milky Way Galaxy is equally probable.
English

Shuffle a deck of playing cards. That exact order of cards has never existed and will never exist again in the history of humanity.

What's a scientific discovery that sounds completely fake but is 100% real and still blows your mind?
English

@Clint_Davey1 Let’s see. Wizard of Oz. Swiss Family Robinson. Sound of Music. Snow White. Flubber. Chitty chitty bang bang. Mary Poppins. Lots of old movies were popular for a long time. Harry Potter. Lion King. Animated and period pieces tend to have a long life.
English

I don't agree with this take.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy still holds up extremely well 20 years later.
In fact it still looks better than most of the CGI Marvel-type slop they keep pumping out.
Because it uses so many real physical settings and props.
The film industry has stagnated and totally lacks originality.
Classic movies from the early 2000's, the 90's and the 80's are still superior.

English

@SandyofCthulhu @Recursion_Agent Your experience, by definition, was one in which 100 percent of people were comparing the prequels to the original. For them “real Star Wars” was Luke, Han and Leia. Darth Vader and Chewy and the Falcon. But for the young, real SW is Anakin and Padme. And the Clone Wars cartoons.
English

@SandyofCthulhu @Recursion_Agent And since the I am your father twist is spoiled, a major part of the trilogy is taken away. And the fights are less flashy and fast. And more and more people have seen 1-3 before 4-6. And the special edition makes watching in release order harder because who is that force ghost?
English

There has been an attempt to gaslight people into thinking the Star Wars prequels were loved actually and it was just some nerds who brought it down.
So here is a story. Ensemble Studios was full of nerds. For months before the film’s opening, we played the trailer on nonstop repeat on large screens in every hallway on the office.
We all watched that trailer at least 100 times. We were so thrilled.

@mattvanswol Reparations/victim mentality. They have been told that they are uniquely persecuted and thus society owes them. Stealing and looting is just one way of taking back what is theirs.
English

@itsrosesm Anyone incompetent to take responsibility for a criminal act should be preemptively incarcerated. If they cannot understand right from wrong they cannot life in civilized society. Full stop.
English

@SketchesbyBoze @Recursion_Agent It is one of the worst examples possible. Tolkien is possibly one of the only authors who is more popular 80 years after writing than at the time of his writing. Not Hemingway nor Steinbeck nor Salinger.
English

@selloutWHAT @piperocktheory It still exists. It’s just called The Old Mill.
English

@piperocktheory There is a whole Defunctland video about a Kennywood ride where people did exactly that
English

some of you legit have to be like 10 years old
you can’t actually be this stupid right
Escaped Audios@EscapedAudios
Cartoons really made me believe that water rides called The Tunnel of Love where you go into a little river boat to make out in some cavernous dark ride were just a part of life but I'm pretty sure they don't exist.
