I recently encountered a video on TikTok regarding the Gukurahundi, focusing on a narrative by a woman whose account is seldom included in discussions about these events. Her version correlates with others I've read in various publications, lending credibility to her testimony. This discrepancy has prompted me to critically assess the broader narrative and the conspicuous silence in the media about the events that initiated and defined the Gukurahundi as it is generally understood. Why is there such reticence concerning the precise sequence of events? Is it ethical for those in the know to withhold information? If we continue to circulate only fragments of the story, how can we hope to glean authentic, truthful, and substantial lessons? A comprehensive discussion regarding the entire scope of the Gukurahundi, including the events leading up to and following it is needed. We must confront critical questions: What or who triggered the conflict? Were the responses justified and appropriate? Who should account for the events? How can the nation begin to heal and find closure? Absent a complete revelation of the truth about Gukurahundi, we cannot achieve genuine understanding, ensure fair restitution, or realise thorough healing.

Having Tanaka appear in front of one Nbebele Magistrate: Maxwell Ncube was prejudicial in a country riddled with tribalism. I don’t see anything illegal that Tanaka said that warrants him being remanded in custody. In fact, I have seen worse vitriol spewed on social media by Ndebeles towards Shona’s but never seen such draconian consequences. Gary Thwala even put a bounty on my head in public but there were never any consequences. This is misuse of our judicial system and Tanaka must sue the system for wrongful arrest.
