After a decade in corporate finance at Procter & Gamble, Accenture, and most recently as a Vice President at JPMorganChase, I’m excited to share that I’m now in venture capital full time as Managing Partner at @Velocityhq_. This move is deeply meaningful to me. Over the past several years, I’ve been working in venture across Africa’s tech ecosystem supporting capital allocators as they deploy and helping founders navigate the fundraising journey. This work has never felt peripheral to me. It has long felt like the clearest expression of the work I’m meant to do. Since I was 18, I’ve wanted to play a role in building a more prosperous future for Africa. Today, I’m grateful to be fully committed to that path. I’m incredibly proud of what we’re building at @Velocityhq_. Through the platform, we’ve invested in 75 Africa-focused companies, and we’re continuing to build the kind of firm and ecosystem support that exceptional founders deserve. If you’re building from Africa for the world, I’d love to connect. With gratitude and joy, Marge

If you invest in (or build) distribution businesses a major risk is margin shock. Kenya’s fertilizer subsidy is a perfect case study. Fertilizer prices dropped from ~$48 per 50 kg bag to ~$28. This compresses margins overnight. To iterate, distributors often long inventory, short cash: - They buy stock upfront - It's stored in warehouses - It's sold later, often on credit When prices fall fast, you’re forced to sell into a new price with an old cost basis. Therefore, low-margin distribution is structurally fragile: - Gross margins are thin (single digits in many trades) - Working capital is heavy - Fixed operating costs don’t flex So how do great distributors hedge: 1. Fast inventory turns Shorter holding periods reduce exposure to repricing. 2. Supplier terms that absorb volatility Rebates, retrospective discounts, or price protection where possible. 3. Margin stacking beyond the commodity Logistics, advisory, embedded finance/insurance value streams that don’t move 1:1 with the subsidy. 4. Credit discipline Tighten who gets credit and on what terms so cash doesn’t get trapped in receivables when prices or demand timing shift. 5. Product/SKU diversification If one line gets subsidized or price-collapses, the business doesn’t. The diligence question I always ask on these models: If the price clears 30–50% lower next season, do you survive? And what specifically protects you? Distribution in Africa can be durable. But it’s not just about moving product. It’s being meticulous about inventory + liquidity + diversification + policy risk management.

Your pricing model reflects how your business actually works. Transaction fees make sense when value increases with volume and marginal costs decline. Hourly or milestone fees make sense when output is customized and effort varies. Pricing isn’t arbitrary. It mirrors underlying economics.

Na so Nigerian designer twitter be. Many of you have never been on the hiring side. Trust me: if I have a Ui/UX problem, I hire a designer to fix it, and my problem get solved, in this era of AI, you’ll be disposable on the spot. I rarely keep designers in a product team after 2 months (post launch). It’s a waste of money to keep them around.
Moski 🤏@moski____

That’s because UI/UX is overrated. And founders are clocking this of late. When you design a fine app finish and you don’t have money to market it, or people aren't paying, the designers are the first batch of hires to get fired, so he/she is useless. So my advice is: start pivoting to product management, product marketing, distribution, sales or growth.
