TORNADO ANNIVERSARY - March 28, 2000 In the late afternoon of March 28th, a supercell would develop west of the city of Fort Worth. At 6:18 pm a tornado would touch down Northwest of Downtown Fort Worth. The first damage would occur in the River Oaks area with sporadic F0-F1 damage. The tornado would then cross the Trinity River and make an abrupt turn to the east towards the Linwood subdivision where several homes would either be destroyed or severely damaged. Next in the path would be the Montgomery Ward distribution center. Unfortunately two people would lose their lives here. As the tornado moved into Downtown, a "Tornado Emergency" was issued by The National Weather Service. This would make only the second time the NWS would issue such a warning. The tornado would strike several skyscrapers in Downtown. Most notably the Cash America building. All windows on the northwestern and southerwestern sides of the building were blown out. Even the stone façade on the building's exterior crumbled. At peak strength the tornado would hit the 10 story Mallick Tower, causing the building to lose most of its exterior. Similar damage was experienced at the Bank One Tower and the Union Pacific Resources Building. In total hundreds of buildings were damaged or destroyed, two people were killed and damages were in the hundreds of millions. This tornado serves as a reminder that big cities are not immune to tornadoes. Always have a plan of action ready to go. Thank you to @alex_bartwx for writing up this tornado anniversary post.

@JordanHallWX Agree, but some people take this the wrong way. Was watching In the Eye of the Storm this weekend and a guy saw a tornado in distance and said his car was a dangerous place and pulled over to lie in a ditch. He got hit with debris. He should have just made a u turn.

As #tornado season is approaching it is more important than ever to be SAFE. Vehicles are NOT a safe place during tornadoes. #wxtwitter

Tornado/Lightning Combos Recent research suggests that a maximum rate of lightning strikes occurs at least 15 to 20 minutes prior to tornado formation within a supercell storm. These maxima are associated with strengthening updrafts as they appear in radar measurements. An increase in lightning rates correlates with an increase of shear in the lower part of the storm. In combination with a strong updraft or downdraft, this shear can provide the ingredients for rotation and possibly a tornado. Polarity reversal of lightning around the time of tornado touchdown also has been examined. Increasing lightning flash rates and reversal of lightning strike polarity are potential indicators of possible tornado formation.

@DerekAyala1987 San Angelo is an oasis in West Texas. Beautiful river, visual arts capital of Texas, great food, amazing people, and the best college baseball park in the country.

I believe in the near future my wife and I will be moving somewhere in West Texas. If you see this post, give me a sales pitch on which area would be the best place to live. Abilene? Lubbock? Odessa/Midland? San Angelo? Fort Davis?

Enjoying @AngeloStateSB on KKSA stream. All tied up at 4 in the bottom of the 6th. Sure feel sorry for that brodcast crew in the sun on the 3rd base side of the press box. Can't tell from the FloSports stream if that is @jeremybryanttx or not.

@MissAshes92 Love the "2+ years experience". I must be getting old. I would never consider that "expert". I've been chasing for 15+ years and I'm not sure i would call myself "expert".
