Multiple oddsmakers won't mind losing money today on the Patriots. Rams-Pats/Seahawks-Pats will generate much more Super Bowl action. "The Patriots check a lot of boxes." – @SuperBookNV's John Murray "I don't think we want the Broncos in there." – @CaesarsSports' Joey Feazel

@elonmusk @Tesla A Tesla backed into my truck today in a parking garage. The driver claims no sensors, no alarms, no warnings. Honest question: how are we close to unsupervised self-driving if basic proximity alerts don’t trigger in a garage?

Chipotle’s latest earnings call was a real time snapshot of the American consumer. On paper, the results looked mixed. Earnings per share came in at $0.29, right on target, but revenue of $3.0 billion fell short of expectations by about $30 million. Comparable sales were up just 0.3%, and even that small gain came from higher average check sizes, not more customers walking through the door. For the third straight quarter, Chipotle cut its full year same store sales outlook, now projecting only low single digit growth instead of flat. The message was clear enough, the consumer is slowing down and the stock reflected it, dropping sharply in after hours trading. CEO Scott Boatwright didn’t sugarcoat it and said… “Earlier this year, as consumer sentiment declined sharply, we saw a broad based pullback in frequency across all income cohorts. Since then, the gap has widened, with low to middle income guests further reducing frequency. We believe that this guest with household income below $100,000 represents about 40% of our total sales, and based on our data is dining out less often due to concerns about the economy and inflation.” In plain terms, the slowdown that started across all income levels has now turned into a class divide. Lower and middle income households who make up nearly half of Chipotle’s business are cutting back the most. And it’s not that they’re switching to cheaper competitors; they’re simply opting for the cheapest one available: home. Boatwright singled out one group in particular, the 25to 35 year olds, the heart of the fast casual customer base. He said they’re facing a perfect storm of headwinds: student loans restarting, slower real wage growth, and rising unemployment risk. For years, this group powered the post pandemic recovery in discretionary spending. Now, they’re the ones quietly stepping back. He also noted that the broader restaurant landscape has gotten far more promotional: “The promotional environment has intensified with value as a price point and menu innovation escalating throughout the year.” That line says a lot. When companies start leaning on deals instead of price hikes to drive traffic, it’s usually because they’ve hit the limits of pricing power. Consumers are tapped out. The story here doesn’t end with Chipotle. This is a turning point for the U.S. service economy. The consumer is not choosing between Chipotle or Taco Bell; they are choosing between eating out or eating in. This kind of shift doesn’t crash an economy overnight, but it chips away at discretionary demand over time. It starts with a skipped lunch, then a skipped weekend meal, and before long, entire industries feel it. Boatwright made it clear that this isn’t a competition problem. It’s an economic one. When a premium fast casual brand has to pivot to value messaging just to keep traffic flat, that is telling you the consumer is losing breathing room. That’s how slowdowns start, quietly one skipped burrito bowl at a time.

Sometimes against all odds, poker can have a fairy tale ending. Today was my last stream sponsored by Global Poker and my heart is as full as it could be. I think global is doing amazing things in the poker world, their mission to create inclusive games and offer awesome prizes for their community is honestly more of what we need in this game. It has been a pleasure to get to know the people behind the scenes, the members of the community and the site. I can not thank them enough for all the amazing support over the last 2 years, this journey has been a dream come true for me. Idk what exactly is next for me, aside from a break for the next few days, all I know is I can not wait for my next stream and where this journey will be bring me next. To those who watched the streams, hyped me up and supported my journey, I can't thank you enough and this only reaffirms that I want to continue to be on this path. Oh yeah...
