According to the witness - "It was so painful to see someone die in front of your eyes and you can't help." - Witness Lifeguards did their best to help, and a bystander even offered to drive him to the hospital that was just 2 km away. But police told them they shouldn’t, if he died in their car, they'd be responsible. So they called for an ambulance, but it never arrived. After three hours, Bongani passed away.
