@mrubin1971 @meforum meforum.org/mef-observer/t…

"If nothing else, they’re pissing off all the right people—and both despite and because of all the outrage, Fenian reached #1 in the Irish charts this month, and #2 in the U.K. charts, behind only The Essential Michael Jackson. Apparently, people don’t like being told what’s “intolerable” for them to listen to, any more than they did in Nas and Tupac’s heyday. Especially not by politicians who cheerfully endorse bombing hospitals. Who’d have thought?" currentaffairs.org/news/the-album…

#DRCongo Étienne Davignon, former European Commission vice president and veteran Belgian diplomat accused of involvement in the 1961 murder of Congolese Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba, has died age 93. He escaped trial. 🇨🇩

#Andalucía The best part of the voting for the Left is that Adelante Andalucía party rose from 2 seats to 6, and the coalition Por Andalucía held the 5 seats it won 4 years ago. But Vox gained 2 seats too & PP needs them for control.

#Andalucía 80% of the votes now counted and it gets worse by the minute. Sánchez' party has been hammered. Turnout looks pretty bad too...

This bears no relationship to the quality of politicians. British prime ministers have nearly all been millionaires but the quality of their leadership and political vision has rarely matched their bank accounts.

Countries get the cabinets they pay for. Singapore pays its Foreign Minister about S$1.1m, around US$800,000. The salary is benchmarked to 60% of the median income of the top 1,000 Singaporean earners. That is why you can get Vivian Balakrishnan, former eye surgeon and hospital chief executive, implementing @karpathy's external brain idea (link below). The speech shows deep understanding of AI and fills one with confidence about Singapore's future. The UK Foreign Secretary earns roughly £165,000: the MP salary plus a ministerial salary of about £67,000. The ministerial part is frozen since the crisis and is down by roughly a third in real terms since 2010. This is what a junior Magic Circle lawyer earns. Spain pays its ministers around €85,000. So you do not get a surgeon who has run hospitals. You get a party loyalist who has never run anything.

@tejparikh90 The idea that stopping Triple lock will put £s elsewhere is spin by those opposed to state pensions. Stopping so-called 'blocking' won't get us 'cheaper' housing - that's laughable & there's entire books on it. Etc., I worked for Kantar I used to write the lobbyist's briefs😂

@digitaldjeli not sure i follow, i think wanting cheaper housing vs blocking, or wanting more govt spending vs triple lock aren't lobby frames, but real economic trade-offs we all need to consider

#DRCongo Congolese authorities: 246 suspected cases 80+ deaths reported across the three health zones. The outbreak has been identified as involving the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola virus. There has also been one case confirmed in neighbouring Uganda. #Ebola

@tejparikh90 My point is that the framing I pointed out is manufactured by lobbyists but you present it as 'fact' or reality then compound that take by tagging some of the lobbyists who use it (not Helen particularly). I agree with your take on MPs but I think you undermine it by the above.

@tejparikh90 These aren't 'pay offs' they're lobbyists' framing for political expediency. It's dodgy not to expose that. "Brits struggle with pay-offs. Building vs. Nimbyism. Debt vs. Triple lock. Tax reform vs. interest groups etc"

Why am I being stalked by armoured personnel carriers? I had bulletproof vests for years after I left DR Congo… I block cookies and numerous other invasive bits but this shit persists across platforms.

In 2006 I worked on a film for the 70th anniversary of the civil war. I filmed/interviewed all over Andalucía. Partisans were still fighting in Montez de Málaga in the '60s. Franco bombed Málaga repeatedly - it held out for 9 months. If you know the history this is shocking.
