This door is one of the oldest still-functioning doors in the world, located at the entrance of the Pantheon in Rome - Italy 🇮🇹. Built between 118-126 AD during the reign of Emperor Hadrian (Publius Aelius Hadrianus), it has stood as a remarkable symbol of Roman engineering and architectural mastery for nearly two millennia. The Pantheon itself is one of the best-preserved ancient buildings in Rome, and this door remains one of its most iconic features. The massive door consists of two solid bronze panels, each weighing approximately 8.5 tons and measuring 7.6 meters (about 25 feet) in height and 2.3 meters (7.5 feet) in width. Despite their enormous weight, the doors are so perfectly balanced and well-engineered that a single person can still open and close them with relative ease. This seamless functionality, achieved without modern machinery, highlights the advanced understanding of mechanics possessed by Roman architects and craftsmen. What makes this door even more extraordinary is that its original locking mechanism—crafted almost 2,000 years ago—still works to this day. It's one of the few surviving examples of ancient security technology in full working order. Beyond its practical use, the door serves as a living connection to the ancient world, inviting modern visitors to step through the same entrance once used by emperors, priests, and Roman citizens centuries ago. #drthehistories
