@nirav_maine “Trans children?” is that like Pagan children or Christian children or vampire children? Or do you actually believe kids can be born in the wrong body?

Trans people, and especially trans children, are under attack by the current federal administration. Everyday there are new threats to their right to exist. My stance is unequivocal: the Maine Human Rights act as currently written is clear in its protection of trans people’s rights. We need to ensure it is upheld across our state. Trans rights are human rights. Today and every day.

I’m in a restaurant with an hour to kill before heading downtown to (yay) a gala. I spoke in Albany this morning in business attire so am carrying my formal dress in a bag. Ordinarily I would change in the ladies’ room, spacious clean stall then common area for makeup and hair — and ask a strange woman to finish zipping me up. Yes, women do that. But now I can’t because it’s all-gender so there are only little stalls with no room plus, yuck, men’s toilets, or else a common area with puzzled or intoxicated men passing by continually behind me as I right now I just try to wash my hands. More male access to space equals loss of utility for women.

I want to be clear about what happened today: While Republicans keep the Senate in session to try and pass their dangerous SAVE act, they also tried to push through a ridiculous ban on transgender athletes. We blocked it.

😠I applied to visit one of the women inmates I've been in contact with, who says she's faced abuse by trans-identified male inmates. I used the application from the DOC website. Today, I got it back in the mail with a note saying 'Sorry, we don't accept these old applications any more. Please fill out the new one.' There's a 'new' application included. It's exactly identical to the old one except for ONE small difference: the boxes to check whether the inmate is male or female have been removed. Seriously.

I was born exactly 58 years ago, to the very minute. My mother said it was one minute to midnight and the nurse had to run and check three clocks to make sure they put the right date on the birth certificate.
