Are you talking about Matt Fradd’s show? Only people who watch Matt Fradd’s show ever saw it. “The Daily Wire” didn’t “attack Joseph Smith and the Mormons,” Matt Fradd and his guest said the Mormons are wrong and Joseph Smith was not a prophet. Which, I’m sure you are not surprised to hear, is the opinion of nearly everyone on Earth. This is not an attack, it’s what most people think. And people who DO think Joseph Smith was a prophet and that Mormons are right are not Muslims, Catholics, Hindus, Jews, Buddhists, evangelical Christians or any other sort of Christians, etc.. They are Mormons, and all of THEM think Muslims, Catholics, Hindus, Jews, Buddhists, evangelical Christians and all other sorts of Christians, etc. are wrong. I’m sure Mormons say so on Mormon podcasts all the time.

I think there are a lot of people missing the point as to why an attack on Joseph Smith and Mormons on the Daily Wire website is such a big deal. People are saying "well why don't you rebut it?" Or "hey man, can't you handle the truth" or "he's just saying his opinion." None of that is the point. The point is that the Daily Wire is not a theological apologetics website or company. Or at least it wasn't. Most people went to the Daily Wire for news and commentary, and that's what they invested in for over a decade. And an outright attack on Joseph Smith and Mormons at a place where we expect to find news and commentary is, indeed, quite jarring and troubling. It means that a pillar of the conservative community now thinks its just fine to attack people based on their faith. "But it's not an attack on Mormons! Only Mormonism! We need to tell the truth whether you like it or not!" When you attack somebody's faith, you are attacking them personally. And giving yourself a pass by saying you're not attacking Mormons, and then attack the prophet and founder doesn't give you a pass. "But we love Mormons and want them to know the truth!" No you don't. No the fuck you don't. This is an excuse to otherise Mormons as weird cult members who deserve to be talked down to and cast out. That's all these talking points have ever been. It's bigoted. It's nasty. It's intentional. You people know what you're doing, and so do we. Stop playing stupid. If the Daily Wire wants to play stupid games, hey guess what, win stupid prizes. Every Latter Day Saint should cancel their Daily Wire account subscription if they haven't already. Let them know that if you play stupid games, as @benshapiro says, you win stupid prizes.

So I’ve been trying to process how all this came to be this morning, and I think I’ve settled on a pretty solid theory. The conservative movement is fractured right now. Everybody knows that. Candace Owens took a lot of the “woke right” audience with her when she departed in 2024. Not only that, after Trump was sworn in again, they lost a ton of the casual election audience, and ad revenue has been down ever since. But it’s more than just that... The Daily Wire has been hemorrhaging cash for a while now, mostly due to the failed entertainment ambitions of Jeremy Boreing. The theatrical release of Am I Racist, in particular, was a huge gamble that did not pay off. Combine that with the low performance of DW as a conservative streaming service, and it required them to restructure. Boreing was released last year so that this could be accomplished. So what do they do? Well, they can’t be the entertainment juggernaut they so desperately wanted to be anymore, so they decided, “Hey, we need to keep a hold of the audience we already have.” Who is their primary audience? A big chunk of it is conservative Catholics and evangelicals. So they have decided to throw their lot in with theological discussion in an effort to keep these guys around. Enter Matt Fradd. Latter-day Saints, while staunchly conservative and strong political allies, are not nearly as big as the audience they are now catering to. And anti-Mormon sentiment is, and always has been, strong in these communities. Since Matt Fradd was brought on in February, he has gone on at least three anti-Mormon tirades, this most recent one actually under the Daily Wire masthead. But what’s more is that this shift toward a more directly anti-Mormon posture manifested itself as early as September 2025, when news director Cabot Phillips responded to LDS X influencer @sister_slay, completely unprompted, attacking Joseph Smith and LDS beliefs. This behavior was, while soundly ratioed by LDS X users, not condemned or addressed publicly by anyone at the Daily Wire. So it is clear what the Daily Wire is now. It is not the same DW that it was when Donald Trump was re-inaugurated. It has changed to cater to a hyper-creedalist theology in an attempt to keep the doors open. This is who the Daily Wire is now. And it is clear their LDS audience has been sacrificed. So, my fellow Latter-day Saints, I say it is time we follow the advice of @JeremyDBoreing, and that is to not give money to people who hate you.

@Manhattva @Lew541207 I'm not saying there's complete equal representation, I'm saying calling it hate is lazy and our efforts are better spent on smart rebuttals than playing the victim. And let's not forget Matt did have on Jacob Hansen for the Book of Mormon.

Let's lighten up on the persecution complex a tad. Jacob Hansen spent almost an entire debate talking about how the Pope falsely claims to be the successor of Peter. Catholics rightly did not accuse him of hating Catholics. Now apply this same reasoning to people who publicly say they think Joseph Smith is a false prophet. See the problem? I'm not saying don't go after Matt Fradd or others. I'm saying go after them for the right reason. Labeling it hate is the lazy and inaccurate way to respond and it feeds the narrative that Latter-day Saints have a persecution complex. I am wrapping up an >3500-word script for a response video to Matt. I'm probably putting more effort into debunking his Joseph Smith article this than the rest of X combined. So by all means disagree with me, just don't accuse me of going soft on people I like without explaining yourself.

I supported the Daily Wire for years. I was subscribed to their website for years. There was a time I thought they were going to be the Rush Limbaugh of the new conservative era. But it seems they’ve decided that they don’t want me in their audience. This is a pretty big betrayal of everything I thought that organization was about. It seems under their new leadership, they only want a very specific kind of viewer, and it looks like I’m not in it.

The Daily Wire Publishes Anti-Mormon Hit Piece | You Should Cancel Your Subscription The Daily Wire published a piece this week called “7 Reasons Joseph Smith Was A False Prophet.” It’s worth talking about, not just as a theological matter, but as a political and editorial one. Because what’s happening here is more calculated than it might appear. This is identity politics. Evangelical identity politics. The Daily Wire has always leaned on its evangelical Christian base. That’s fine because every media brand has an audience it plays to. But publishing a piece that explicitly labels Joseph Smith a false prophet isn’t a detour into religious commentary. It’s a signal. It’s the conservative media equivalent of red meat, a deliberate play to a specific religious constituency that has never fully accepted Latter-day Saints as part of the same Christian tradition. The Daily Wire knows exactly who it’s talking to with this one. What makes it noteworthy is how much it represents a departure for them. The Daily Wire built its brand on conservative politics, culture war arguments, anti-woke positioning, political commentary. That’s their lane. They’ve been effective in it. But somewhere along the way, they’ve apparently decided that theological gatekeeping is also part of the portfolio. And in doing so, they’ve taken Latter-day Saints, fellow conservative Americans who have voted, donated, and organized alongside Daily Wire readers for decades, and put them squarely in the out group. Let’s call that what it is: religious warfare. Utah, Idaho, Arizona. These states aren’t historically conservative by accident. Latter-day Saints are among the most politically engaged conservative communities in the country. They show up. They’ve shown up for the same candidates, the same causes, and yes, probably the same media brands that the Daily Wire’s evangelical base supports. And the Daily Wire just told them they don’t belong inside the tent. So who exactly is this article for? It’s for the evangelical audience that has always been skeptical of Mormonism and wants to see that skepticism validated by a major platform. The Daily Wire is giving them that validation. Loudly. Publicly. Under their banner. That’s a choice. And choices have consequences. Here’s a straightforward question every Latter-day Saint who subscribes to the Daily Wire, buys their merchandise, or watches their content should be asking right now: why are you financially supporting a platform that just published a hit piece on your faith? The Daily Wire is entitled to publish whatever theological opinions they want. That’s not the issue. The issue is that if they’re going to wade into religious warfare and identify Latter-day Saints as the out group, there’s no obligation for Latter-day Saints to keep funding them while they do it. Conservative coalitions only hold together when the people inside them feel like they belong. The moment one faction starts using its platform to question the legitimacy of another faction’s religion, the coalition frays. The Daily Wire may think this kind of content strengthens their brand with their core audience. Maybe it does in the short term. But if this is the editorial direction they’re headed, if religious hit pieces on fellow conservative Americans are now part of what the Daily Wire does, then Latter-day Saints should take note. And they should spend their money accordingly.
