Now that they are saving so much money with the Department of Education I think we should have the Department of Education pay all school costs including materials and so that the teachers don't have to spend it themselves - that would give a raise to the teachers and provide the materials the kids need.

@nathancunneen I don't think we need raise teachers' salaries if we just pay the out of pocket costs teachers have to front to equip their classrooms. All those books, maps, art supplies, decor, cleaning supplies and whatnot used to be furnished by the school. Now teachers have to buy them.

When I first saw her, I thought Karen Bass was a nice person to be repping the City of LA - intelligent, pleasant, experienced in government, used to negotiation. After the Ghana debacle revealed that she was nothing more than a frontperson for political persons announcing the policies they have already decided on, and she doesn't even seem to have realized what was going on, I am guessing that Bass has signed a lot of orders she doesn't remember signing. I also remember that afternoon before the night of the inferno when she finally got on the plane home and said she was perfectly in control. She did not have a clue what to do. So she dithered. When we needed Harrison Ford, we got Woody Allen.

It is very disappointing that Mayor Bass has decided to fire Chief Kristin Crowley. Chief Crowley served Los Angeles well and spoke honestly about the severe and profoundly ill-conceived budget cuts the Bass administration made to the LAFD. That courage to speak the truth was brave, and I admire her. Honesty in a high city official should not be a firing offense. The Mayor's decision to ignore the warnings and leave the city was hers alone. This is a time for city leaders to take responsibility for their actions and their decisions. We need real leadership, not more blame passing.

A parent in the Long Beach Unified School District received this email: Dear Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, We are reaching out to share an important update regarding student wellness and equity in our schools. As part of California's Menstrual Equity for All Act (Assembly Bill 367), all public schools must provide free menstrual products in all girls' restrooms, gender-neutral restrooms, and at least one boys' restroom per campus for the 2024-25 school year. Previously, this law applied to grades 6-12, but with the passage of Assembly Bill 230, it now includes students in grades 3-12, ensuring that younger students have access to these essential hygiene products. At LBUSD, we are committed to reducing barriers to learning and fostering a supportive environment for all students. By implementing this policy, we aim to ensure that any student who menstruates-including transgender boys and nonbinary students-can access these necessary products with dignity and discretion. Dispensers are currently being installed in restrooms across our school sites, and we appreciate your patience as we complete this process. We also encourage families to speak with their children at home about the appropriate and safe use of menstrual products. I was a USAF squadron commander during the Bosnian War. I wore a NATO patch on my shoulder, opposite my American flag patch. Myself and my guys were shot at. The NATO chain of command was a shit show and we survived to come home anyway. If they don’t want to match resources, I’d say get the hell out.

That has been a racket well since Social Security began. People preserving thumbs and jars in bars in Hawaii to endorse checks, stuff like that. But there's no excuse for not having a check system in place which at least looks at the birth date and at reasonable intervals to see if they are unlikely to be still alive.

I'm hearing points of view from 56 cazillion people and having trouble making connections - it's like a trail of evidence it's so bizarre - like an ant trail it leads everywhere and nowhere. So I’m in Skid Row driving through the area. I stopped at an intersection. While waiting for the the light I hear two women talking amongst each other. Now for some reason they tried to talk low, but as many know, a skid row whisper is more like a yell. My ears were burning as I heard from the Black woman “That’s…. Is that…. Oh 💩, that’s my n@gga Joseph!” The Hispanic lady started jumping up and down and yelled “Oh. That is him!” They both yelled at the same time “HEY JOSEPH!” As they clapped and laughed like they just saw a long lost loved one. I had to pull the car over. I waved at them and said “Hey ladies. How y’all doin’?” The Black woman said “We thought you were gone. Where you been. It’s been crazy out here!” I let them know I had been on vacation for a month in a half. The other woman said “You can’t go on vacation no more Joseph! We won’t allow it.” The light changed and I had to go. I waved bye to them and drove off. It feels good to be missed. It’s an honor to know people see hope in you. I take no credit for this. I police with the fruits of the spirit to the best of my ability. That’s my God working through my obedience. I also remember my favorite Bible verse. Which is Matthew 25:40. It says “do this for the least of these.” To me, that verse does not mean people struggling are the least. It demands that we treat those who the world sees as the least, as well as we treat those the world celebrates. God has no favorites and neither do I. I distribute his love equally. I love when the people I serve know It.

@HollywoodYeste1 When I was a kid Donald O'Connor was a well-known cute guy. We went to his Francis the Mule movies and we watched his TV show. He was a dynamite dancer. What puzzled me was why he wasn't a bigger star than he was and what became of him after his MGM movies.

The underlying cause of my anxiety was being strapped to a bed for 15 fucking days without my family, and having my health completely destroyed by Covid. There is no fixing that. Taking meds helps me function/cope.

Imagine how appalled you would be if a Doctor prescribed glasses of wine daily for anxiety. You KNOW it doesn't fix the underlying cause of anxiety. Antidepressants,benzos, stimulants are the same thing. They have effects they don't fix underlying causes.
