I'm living in a new reality where AI recorders and transcribers are capturing my meeting behaviours and making an archive of them. Discussions used to be ephemeral, but they are no longer.

"Mass media functions to neutralize the lived, unique character of the world and replace it with a multiple universe of media which are homogenous, signifying each other and referring back and forth. In the extreme case, they become the content of the others." #Baudrillard

I think it’s finally dawning on everyone that 100k is 30k. Took a very long time for people to realize this. 300k is more like 100k. Everyone keeps saying stuff like “oh but flights are cheaper” “oh but you don’t need to buy ink and pens!” Flights are not cheaper. This is completely made up. It’s $800 minimum to fly LA to NYC. Decent baseball tickets are $200. Slop bowl lunch is $26. It’s completely over. Stop the larp.

@dkillorn As with other epochal philosophers, it’s hard to briefly summarize, especially since it’s still relatively new. But the transformation from a dialectic of opposition, reconciliation, and judgment to a pluralist multiplicity enacting transversal relations of potencies gets at it.

People who claim that Deleuze is merely incoherent or obscurantist aren’t giving the time and attention required to understand his work. He enacted the primary conceptual innovation of the 20th century after Hegel in the 19th. Of course his writing is difficult.

My funniest literature stances are the fact that I barely know shit about either poetry or stage drama but I think the two greatest writers of all-time with a bullet are Rainer Maria Rilke and Samuel Beckett. If ever God’s pen was channeled to note-perfection it was these two.

Farming has a global labor crisis and @776foundation climate fellow @oxncgen is building the fix — autonomous robots that plant, spray, weed, and monitor crops. Real hardware, real fields. @3farmatebots is building from Ghana for the world!

Film literacy among young people is at an all time low. My gen z students are shockingly unfamiliar with many key landmarks of modern cinema that were released in the 1990s

@PeterDiamandis We don't create it. We evolved scarcity over millennia. It outcompetes abundance every time the two meet. Don't be naive.

A humanoid robot will cost us $30K and works 24/7 for $0.40/hour. A solar panel generates electricity for 3 cents/kWh. What exactly is the argument that we CAN'T create abundance?

Think pieces proclaiming the death of the novel fail to comprehend the uncanny resilience of the genre. The novel isn’t dead. The novel is UNDEAD. Critics have been writing its obituary for decades, but the novel keeps coming back, feasting on their brains.

@signulll You're conflating your career with the corporate world. You want a career you just don't want a corporate career.

i’ve thought a lot about careers, & the question that kept surfacing in my mind was do i want to spend fifteen years climbing a ladder someone else built until i’m finally a vp of something? or do i want to do some crazy shit & see where life takes me? my personality has always bent toward the latter. & when i stress test it against the long view time & time again, the math still works cuz i ask a very simple question which is that do i want my kids to say “dad spent his life moving from level to level at some company,” or do i want them to say “dad wrote some dumb stuff online, actually created stuff outta nothing, contributed to the culture directly, had a lot of fun, & ended up here”? the second one wins every time here too.

The debate about a "wealth" tax is certainly hot and I haven't landed quite yet. However, if, as many predict, there is a hollowing out of the white collar tax base, my thoughts are we should develop a tax on agentic AI to impute income that was otherwise displaced to fund a universal basic income for those out of work and seeking to re-skill during any transition.

Hello world, I’m Michael Motala, and I wrote a book. Years ago, in tax class, I started asking myself: how did 136 countries agree to change the way the world taxes multinational corporations? And why did the world finally decide to come together to fight multi-billion dollar tax avoidance and offshored wealth? Today, the answer is out. Global Corporate Tax Governance: Crisis, Consensus, and Revolution from @Routledge, in their Global Governance series. @jjkirton Grateful to Profs. Avi-Yonah (Michigan), Chaisse (CityU HK), Mavroidis (Columbia) for their generous reviews. Dedicated to my parents, Yvonne and Frank, who made all of it possible, as well as the friends and institutions who supported this project all the way.
