This genre of essays is funny because people who write them seem to take “economic data” at face value, and proceed to downplay the collective experience of everyone they talk to that suggests, maybe, the data isn’t accurately representing reality.

Re: Gen Z and food. 1.) Stop calling everybody old enough to grow facial hair a Boomer. It is making you confused. 2.) Actual Boomers are in their 70's and 80's, and did not grow up eating fast food every day. 3.) Gen X grew up when peak T.V. dinner was replaced by the invention of the Dollar Menu, and while we did eat tons of fast food by the time we got to the work force, most of us saw the Arby's Five for Five as some sort of miracle, and never forgot about ramen and hot dogs. The Dollar Menu was killed by covid and minimum wage, and it does suck. You do have it worse than Gen X did living in the 1$ McDouble era. Nevertheless, the solutions proposed by Actual Boomers are the valid solutions to your situation.

A leaked Chinese database called the “Dynamic Control Platform for Foreigners” has exposed how Beijing tracks every foreigner inside the country. Facial recognition cameras, visa records, hotel check-ins, flight bookings, digital payments, phone records, app activity. All of it pulled into one dashboard that shows where you’ve been, who you’ve met, and who you keep meeting. The Telegraph got the files through a cybersecurity researcher called NetAskari. The system was apparently built by Hebei province’s public security bureau, going back to at least 2021. It pulls journalists, academics, diplomats, foreign students, even foreign spouses of Chinese citizens into detailed profiles with phone numbers, travel histories, and relationship maps showing who connects to who. Former China correspondent Sophia Yan said the platform could retrace nearly every step she took in the country and surface her contacts. Researchers point out that old-school anti-surveillance tricks don’t really work against this. It runs on China’s network of 700 million plus cameras with AI on top. You can’t burner-phone your way out of facial recognition. I never said I was struggling to pay bills, but most people are and I empathize with that. The reason I noticed is because we actually budget and track our spending and have watched everything get ridiculously more expensive. If we didn't have the margin we do, we'd be struggling

@AttackOnChitin The FBLS includes Uber, door dash, etc. In their stats as having jobs as independent contractors. No benefits, limited pay, wear and tear on the vehicle, etc. Subtract all of them and the stats change dramatically. Boycott their usage stand together against this bullshit.
