@EricTopol That’s surprising to me. I know two people who took Paxlovid after I told them about it, and they seemed to get better pretty quickly after taking it.

In 2 randomized, open-label trials of Paxlovid there was lack of evidence of reduced hospitalizations among the participants, who were age 50+ with coexisting conditions, and who were vaccinated. The endpoint was very low (<1.2%) in the treatment and control groups for both trials (i.e. under-powered to detect a difference). nejm.org/doi/full/10.10…

@MDGOVODHH How can people not fluent in sign language understand what you’re communicating? There’s no captioning here.

@EricTopol Looks like walking 6000 steps one day a week provides an especially good return for that expenditure of energy. At higher step counts, it looks counterproductive to exercise more than five days because the mortality appears to increase; having a break to rest seems important.

In a cohort of over 13,500 women with mean age ~72 years, >4,000 steps per day, at least 1-2 days per week, was associated with reduction in all-cause mortality and lower risk of cardiovascular disease bjsm.bmj.com/content/early/…

@YngCnsrvativDad @NBCNews Also, N95 masks selected to filter out respiratory viruses generally look different than the masks that ICE agents use to escape accountability for their actions. (Accountability is the main concern here.)

@YngCnsrvativDad @NBCNews Masked ICE agents have refused to provide identification in any way, including badge numbers, or even warrants. Thus they can behave exactly like criminals pretending to be law enforcement (and this has already happened). Local law enforcement officers do provide badge #s and ID.

California became the first state to ban most law enforcement officers, including federal immigration agents, from covering their faces while conducting official business under a bill that was signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom. nbcnews.com/politics/immig…

@MaggieCollin3 @NBCNews There’s no law requiring federal officers to wear masks obscuring their faces or to refuse to prove their official role. Federal officers still have to obey state laws that don’t conflict with their official duties. Read the linked article.

@MonaO991 @btysonmd If your stepmom is receiving SSI, that’s welfare for low-income people with liquid financial assets below $2000. Her SSI payments can indeed be reduced by regular income from other sources. SSI provides Medicaid, which can pay for nursing home care.

@btysonmd I was gifting my stepmom, who is in a nursing home, $100 a month for little extras, and the government made her claim it as income.

The IRS is targeting my retired parents who live on a fixed income because I pay their mortgage (that I am on title) and paid for their medical care. They say it’s income, I say they are full of 💩. Is this really what our government has become?

What I find impressive in this deep interrogation of factors associated with extended lifespan is the immune system (not metabolic factors). Activated immune cells (such as CD4+, CD8+) were associated with short lifespan. Resting state immune cells (native T cells, CD4+, CD8+, immature NK cells) were linked to long lifespan.

New @Nature The largest study of impact of dietary restriction (DR) in ~1,000 mice with diverse genetic background for health and lifespan nature.com/articles/s4158… —40% caloric restriction had the most lifespan expansion effect but suppressed immune response and loss of lean muscle mass —a divergence of health and longevity effects of DR —"genetic background proved to be the more important factor in determining lifespan."

@HearingHealthFn HearingHealthFn: this tweet you posted is not captioned, doesn’t have a link to a transcript, and hasn’t been summarized. Given the nature of your organization, please address how to make this tweet more understandable by people with severe hearing loss.

@HearingHealthFn Ironically, this tweeted audio clip was inaccessible to deaf and hard of hearing as it wasn’t captioned, and no link was provide to any transcript. (I turned on Live Transcribe from my Pixel phone to decipher what was said on my iPad, but not everyone can do that.)

@Krischi @FCC Christian, did you ask if they are using other ways to communicate instead? I myself use Live Caption on my Pixel for some incoming calls, but I also use Google Meet/Duo (with built in ASR) and sometimes Live Transcribe with a call on speaker.

There are many reasons why the relay service ecosystem is stagnating, but one of the factors the @FCC could actually do something about is lack of compatibility with advanced communication services like videoconferencing services. 2/2

Latest poll from my incoming Communication Accessibility class: only 1/3 of students use video relay services regularly. That’s down from slightly less than 50% six months ago. 1/2

@KTVU I suspect the worker responsible needs to be checked out for vision problems or lack of reading comprehension. About half the population in the USA is functionally illiterate.

@dmulvany @WSJ I’m part of a clinical trial. Blood is drawn and tested for two studies. One, if there is active status of Covid, one if there has been a past exposure. We’re tested every couple months. My husband showed past infection last time. I’m still zero. Test again this month.

@sarahlovesears As a psych social worker (now retired), I came to realize some patients had undiagnosed medical conditions and helped them get diagnosed. Many conditions are difficult to dx right away, but we need to keep our minds open.

@sarahlovesears Covid-19 has stretched all of us thin. Still, we all, including psych attendants, need to note inconsistent information to reach the actual diagnosis.

A bit outside of my usual tweet content. My family has been living a nightmare for the past three weeks, and I’m going to share a little about it. Important issue to discuss, in my opinion. My spouse was recently diagnosed with a rare disease. Lots of medical gaslighting.

@gutlessgu @sarahlovesears What happened here needs to be addressed formally so that the arrogant ones recognize their dysfunctional behavior and change it (if possible). Other changes will be needed, too.
