The White House believes it is close to an agreement with Iran on a 14-article memorandum of understanding - which will end the war and establish a framework for detailed negotiations on the nuclear program and other issues Only Fools believe a Terrorist Cult would Honor any Agreement.

NEW: Trump’s team is facing the task of convincing the president to approve an Iran deal he previously rejected, per people familiar The MOU framework is not materially different from the cash-for-uranium deal, which Trump has said he won’t do @WIRED wired.com/story/trumps-t…

Trump’s abrupt U-turn on plan to reopen Strait of Hormuz came after backlash from allies Saudi Arabia, a key Gulf ally, suspended the U.S. military’s ability to use its bases and airspace to carry out the operation, sources say. nbcnews.com/politics/white… via @nbcnews

"Project Freedom" was never going to do what it said on the tin. Perception of risk in Hormuz simply too great for the vast majority of ships to chance it. After that brief detour into fantasy, the Trump administration is now back to a reality that offers three bad options: 1) cut a quick deal with Iran in which both sides lift their blockades, and leaves the rest of the issues (e.g. Iran's near-weapons-grade uranium) for future talks that may drag on for an extended period 2) continue with the blockade, hoping that at some point it compels Iran to make concessions, while the global energy shock gets worse by the day 3) resume and escalate a deeply unpopular war, at the risk of far more extensive damage to Gulf energy infrastructure

Don’t miss the significance of this: the administration is announcing the end of the war in effect without having achieved regime change, ending Iran’s nuclear program or eliminating its missile program. And its focus is now on solving a problem which didn’t exist prior to the war: a closed or nearly-closed Strait of Hormuz. The president could of course order new military strikes but the current state of play has not met his sometimes outsized expectations.

It’s been seven hours since Iran launched salvoes of missiles and drones at the UAE, restarting the war. Has President Trump made any comments on this so far?
