USF has now set a precedent with AAR and Hodgson. Any coach that comes to South Florida is immediately in a position to win year one and will have all the resources and support necessary to do so. Other mid major coaches are salivating for this job.

To see Evans take a deal for $14 million a year from the 49ers - 60 cents on the dollar from his last Bucs contract, before incentives - makes me think he wanted out and Tampa Bay wasn't going to be able to re-sign him. They could match or exceed that without any heavy lifting.

I believe police officers should be trained to use methods that safely deflate a vehicle's tires such as specialized non-lethal tools or precise techniques to stop a fleeing car, rather than resorting to live ammunition aimed at the occupants. Human life is precious and must be protected above all else. There is no justification for shooting at an alleged criminal when the vehicle can be immobilized by deflating its tires, preventing any further escape without endangering lives. American police forces, in particular, would benefit from comprehensive reorientation and improved training to handle such situations in a more civilized, restrained, and professional manner.

NEW: Chicago police open fire on the driver of a wanted vehicle in Humboldt Park. According to police, the white Mercedes was possibly linked to a shooting that happened on Monday. When officers tried to stop the vehicle, the man started driving before allegedly hitting a woman and crashing into a CTA bus multiple times. "The vehicle struck an adult female pedestrian in the street and continued to flee... [He] struck the bus multiple times with the vehicle and struck an unmarked squad car," police said, adding that a gun was recovered from the vehicle. "As officers attempted to stop the vehicle and place the driver into custody, one officer discharged their service weapon, striking the offender." The man was hit in the chest and taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The family of the man claims he was getting food when he was "swarmed by officers" and says they thought police could have done more to de-escalate the situation. The woman who was hit by the Mercedes was injured. Two officers suffered minor injuries.
