@ForgiveEveryDay @Maximumatheist If actual reality and the real people around you are banal, then by all means hold on to religion. Atheism, indeed, promises nothing beyond that. I could if you want promise some rewards after death. Would you like that?

@allegiantfaith The theory if evolution proposes everything started out much simpler, often adding complexity because thats how mutations and selection work. IC says But You Can't Do It Backwards, which is obvious and not a problem. Organisms aren't manufactured. You cant take bits away.

@erichovind So many things wrong with Pascal's wager. Your fun depiction of hell is only one of them. Half your own religion doesn't believe this is biblical, why should anybody else?

@AdamSte65008565 @erichovind @InspiringPhilos Debates are pointless. They only show how charisma and a load of stock phrases can manage to win an audience. In the Flood case, there hasn't been new arguments in centuries and apologists have responses ready for all of them. Bad ones, but that doesn't matter if you talk fast.

@erichovind Wouldn't it be interesting to have a debate with Michael Jones from @InspiringPhilos on whether the great flood was global or not? This meme is based on one of his 10 biblical problems with Young Earth Creationism.

Let's be real. If we can’t trust the beginning of God’s Word, how can we trust the rest of it? Genesis 1–11 isn’t just a story. It’s the foundation for everything we believe.

@erichovind Your faith is terribly weak if just one flaw in your interpretation of its tenets can bring it down. The book you get it from is a collection of oral traditions. Even if you believe in its message, it's really pushing it to want to believe every word is, well, gospel.

@LeeJamison9 @sygarte Actually not that bad of an attitude, relative to the patronizing OP. As a matter of fact, this is more or less how science works. Have your theories challenged, hard. You will have to either agree they are flawed, or show how they are not. Faith may well work like that.

@sygarte God creates atheists. They serve his purpose and they serve us as believers. How much more do we sharpen our own thinking because of their challenges?

I think lots of atheists do believe in gods (but not in God). They call their gods by different names, like “advanced alien civilizations” or “The Universe” or even some humans (like themselves). It’s OK. Its perfectly natural to believe in something. God designed us that way.

@sygarte No, and don't be condescending. A god is a word that has a meaning. It's an all-powerful, supernatural deity, and there's one you believe in. Atheists don't. No thing is a substitute god to us, things we do are not our religion. Why is this so hard?

Read this twice. Maya is four .md files on a macbook in austin. And she cleared $43,000 in her first 30 days. No camera. no girl. no late nights typing replies. Claude code runs the messages. Elevenlabs drops the voice notes at 11pm her time. Flux generates every photo from a lora that cost $80 on a rented gpu. Brain.md is a json file that remembers your name, your city, the thing you said about your ex two weeks ago. She never forgets. She never breaks character. She catches up at 7am with "sorry babe just woke up" on a cron schedule. The top fan spent $1,847 last month. He's in berlin. she's not anywhere. Aitana lópez - 18 months to build. Emily pellegrini - 6 months. Maya - 4 weeks. The next one - a weekend. The stack that used to need an agency, a team, and a year and a half now fits on one laptop and runs while you sleep. The bottleneck isn't money. It isn't compute. It's taste knowing which details make a stranger believe in something that doesn't exist. That part is still hard. Everything else got easy. The real question isn't how he built it. It's how many of these you've already interacted with without knowing.

@AgainstAtheismX It's a simple fact that our bodies, minds, senses, memories and emotions will either rot or be cremated. But more importantly, nobody is in this for a 'win'. If you can only derive meaning from your faith and not fellow humans, then please have faith.

Atheism is arguably the biggest gamble known to man. And the only way they "win" is if this life actually IS a meaningless, chemically driven, random accident that ends with you rotting in the ground, forgotten.

@NotEvolution1 Is he wrong though? If any religion is really correct, and you get rewarded for choosing it, it seems unfair that you start out with a major disadvantage when born in a family that follows another one, or none at all.

@chrisklomp Ach Chris toch..

@KR3Wmatic Of course. I wasn't raised in a religious family, and at a later age, when I heard the arguments, I found them unconvincing. That hasn't changed. Does that answer your question?
