@pmarca Good insight and unfortunately applies to RU-UA war (which is top of mind for me right now) all too well - seems this is exactly why Russia doesn’t collapse as a society despite us all wishing for it. 95% of 🇷🇺 people have, both literally and metaphorically, nowhere else to go…

Important corollary: The thing (usually) required for a legacy institution or system to actually collapse is the presence of an alternative to which people can move. Without an alternative, the status quo may just be corrupt and bad forever.

I’m wrong, but a large part of me wants to believe this is exactly as Biden wished to communicate it. For the whole world to hear: “You must go.” “Officially” walk it back. He said what he said, and he meant it. It was a signal, walked-back or not.
