Serious question for knowledgeable soccer fans. Is there any country you have seen play so far in the World Cup that you think no way the US team could hang with?

10,000 Aussies booing our national anthem. 10,000 Aussies going home losers. They want to be us so badly. It’s cute. 🇺🇸

One of the funniest things about the World Cup/Olympics/whatever is how Australia truly believes they have like a massive bitter sports rivalry with the United States and Americans have zero awareness of this

The World Cup has shown America that Australians are not chill bros we always thought they would were. Soft, whiny, unpleasant folk they end up being online.

The vibes of this years FIFA cup have been insane. Never let places like “Qatar” host this shit again. It feels like one non stop global party this last month

We get to go home, we get to go hooooome, you cunts have to live here, we get to go home

Okay, since you asked, here’s my American opinion. Soccer will never be as popular in America as football for 3 reasons: 1. The Fake Injuries Players are incentivized to flop because the other team is more likely to get a penalty. In football, it is the opposite. If a player has a real injury, play toughs it out and plays through it, it is seen as heroic. Americans like toughness and grit. 2. Chance Goals Many goals are scored by chance as opposed to skill. The chaos at the net when the ball is near is remarkable. Defenders blocking the goalie’s line of sight. The ball bouncing and ricocheting off of random body parts often determines if the ball goes in the net or out of bounds. In football, there are some elements of chance, but because players are allowed to use their hands, the points are primarily scored based on skill. Less is left to chance. Americans like control. 3. Low Scoring In football, it is still challenging to score, but it happens much more often. Also, every play has a chance for gratification and excitement: a first down, a big catch, a big hit, a sack, an interception, etc American like constant excitement.

Growing up in Canada, we were filled with anti-American propaganda. And I didn’t realize when I was growing up, but many Canadians have this constant energy of trying to prove they are better than America. Constantly feigning moral superiority over Americans. When I moved to Australia, it was the same thing. A constant proving of why they are better than the US. Here’s what Canadians and Australians don’t realize…Americans don’t think about them at all. They don’t spend time trying to prove they are better. They just go live their lives and try to be the best. Posts like this 👇🏻 just give Americans entertainment until college football starts again. But keep coping I guess.

I don’t know, maybe the US should just host every World Cup
