✈️Travelling with diabetes can be challenging, especially when issues arise at security screenings. Last year, many individuals living with diabetes contacted us about difficulties with their diabetes technology, such as insulin pumps and CGMs, at Dublin Airport. Some were advised incorrectly about what was safe to wear through body scanners, causing frustration and stress. Recently, Diabetes Ireland met with Dublin Airport representatives to address these concerns, advocating for better understanding and alternative screening options. We discussed improving staff training, updating information on the airport website, and ensuring better support for people with diabetes. It seems that @grainne_seoige, currently a candidate for @fiannafailparty in the upcoming general election has caused a whole range of mixed opinions with her recent newspaper advert. It contained the following message: “Did you know that treatment for cancer outcomes in Galway are the worst in the country?”. While I do not understand what this sentence means, some have taken it to mean that cancer patients in Galway get poor quality cancer treatment. I do not think this is true. Because I know many people (at all of our hospital sites) who routinely go the extra mile to compensate for resourcing deficits.

I asked @Primark for some PJs for the people in my ward who have no family or friends to bring them in. They wont help. Patients don't mobilise in backless gowns and have worse health outcomes. Anyone have suggestions for companies I should reach out to?

I do not support any political party. Our oncology dayward is currently 5 nurses understaffed. We cannot hire new nurses because of the embargo. We need new nurses. This has not hit the headlines, because the nurses in our dayward are excellent, and have excellent leadership from the CNM2 and upwards, they deliver every day. We don’t make waiting lists; we manage as best we can. Lift the embargo, or please explain the logic.

🤰🔬New hope arises for pregnant women grappling with gestational diabetes, thanks to a new study led by Professor @FidelmaDunne at University of Galway! The EMERGE Clinical Trial, involving over 500 expectant mothers, scrutinised the efficacy and safety of the drug Metformin, and the findings are a game-changer in gestational diabetes management. ✅ Some of the Key Findings: Women assigned to metformin were 25% less likely to need insulin, and when insulin was necessary, it was started later in the pregnancy. Fasting and post-meal sugar values in the mother were significantly lower in the metformin-exposed group at weeks 32 and 38. Women receiving metformin gained less weight throughout the trial and maintained this weight difference at the 12-week post-delivery visit.
