Unrelated but related, it’s sad that this happened cause it could have been avoided but this is exactly what happens when your kids know that they can’t run to you when there’s a problem. They can’t afford to make even the slightest mistakes kids make because “my mummy will beat me”. This is what happens when you as a mother do not feel like home to your kids. It’s even sadder that I see this pattern amongst people in my generation too. Like you didn’t learn your lessons with our mothers and even try to be better?? Sigh.

My mummy will beat me, my mummy will beat me if I don't get my bucket. that was the statement that led this young lad to a drastic decision that ended his life. while the other students were chased out from school hostel to attend may devotion. he sneaked out with some of his friends, to the reservoir where his buckets reportedly fell in. he told his friends to tie his his hands. with rope so he could easily slide into and out the reservoir with his bucket, out of ignorance, they did. the rope cut because his weight is obviously heavier, and that was how he fell inside and got drowned. I wished he knew how important he was to his mum than the supposed bucket that bothered him. This death is really devastating because it is avoidable. a very reckless death that could have been avoided only if the school had a good and convenient provision of water supply. it is so unfortunate that A school as big as C.I.C enugu funded by the mission has no borehole despite their huge amount of school fees. they can afford it, if they had really paid attention to it. this is the only promising child of a parents, sent to school to study and have a brighter future, only to be brought back home in corpse. My sincere condolence to the family. it's so disheartening. © chinenye blessing

Good morning. Incase you have no reason to be angry today, here’s one. A lady received what was supposed to be a modeling job offer. For safety reasons, she decided to go with her friend. When they got there, they realized the job offer had only been used to lure them in. The man not only raped both the lady and her friend, but also threatened them with a knife and blackmailed them. There is chat evidence to support their claims. The matter was taken to court, but the case was thrown out, and the rapist was freed. The judge said “No case”. Mind you, owning a self defense tool is illegal in Nigeria. We’re fucked.

While I bring a close to the "@moniepointng crusades," because this week is going to be really busy for me, just want to say I've contributed my mettle to the "talent gap" and related issues, in Nigeria, both as a trainer, an advocate, and a manager, and I know what I've seen in terms of quality of talent within the Nigerian talent ecosystem. In the first cohort of the Microsoft Leap program, I saw ladies who came in as noobs and studied unrelated topics like Biochemistry, arguing Network Subnetting by the 3rd week of training. Within 2 years, most of them were made Leads and Seniors in the companies they were placed at. Several of them relocated outside the country obviously because employers here didn't see or value their worth. Whether you have a huge following or not, but especially if you do, understand that being the pillar and ladder to those coming after you is the lowest hanging fruit to cement your name in the annals of posterity. I'm not expecting Tosin to apologize, but I'm hoping he reconsiders his statements, and I hope every other Technical Leader in this country have the mindset to elevate young minds and talents who are not the cause of their present predicaments, but use their existing platforms and resources to prune and elevate perhaps unpolished diamonds in the ecosystem. Ciao!

I swear on my life that this silly mindset is built upon a flow system: 1. The intentional socioeconomic situation of Nigerian women who are not yet economically liberated as much as other countries. Which leads to.. 2. The messianic complex the men have. Because taking a woman who has limited financial options out of poverty would make you her alpha and omega. And why do you do that? 3. Because of the need to be in control. The belief that since you've done 1 and 2, you deserve control and her total submission. Only this makes you more masculine. Meanwhile the most control you need to be masculine is control of self. Not others. You don't need control over others. Neither should you elevate out of poverty in exchange for subservient relationships. "After all I've done for her". It was not yours to do. It's why a lot of us started earning and started decentering our fathers because the control they had was always reiterated with statements like "I will not pay your school fees if you don't...", "I will not feed you if you don't..". Because well, that's a form of control. But control is NOT influence. It's not love either. Influence is earned. It's built over time. A woman "submitting" to you should happen because: 1. You've acknowledged her as a complete human. A human being in all the complete ways a human should be regarded as. And treat her accordingly. 2. Allowed her freedom (not for obscenities or whatever sexual explorations we think comes with women freedom), but to live safely, work and earn and be free in the way a human should be. This is possible within social structures like marriages, education system, workplaces etc. The UK stories are good examples because once criteria 1 and 2 above are met and shes in such society, does she need a man? Oh yes, more than ever. But she needs him more in a way that works for her, not with your money or treating her like a pity job. (I still think that men all over the world are required to provide. But that's different from buying love by flaunting your ability to provide). Tssk. When you see women as full humans, you'd stop thinking you need to elevate them from poverty. You'd start thinking about enabling them to get out of it themselves. The more women we enable, and who get themselves out of poverty, the more there's reference for "building". They begin to understand what building really means. There is respect for hustle, and when they meet a man, they know what's required is building, not entitlement. But you know this. You know enabling them limits your options, so as you were. We'd all be fine.

the way a lot of nigerian men reason is so weird you’ll see a poor babe and the first thing you’re thinking of is how to elevate her
