@iron_redux @basilYam yeah there are evidence certainty issues but effect sizes comparable to CBT/exposure therapy are reliably shown, and it’s recommended as effective by the various professional bodies

Marx would obviously genuinely be impressed by how easy it is for the public to own not just a piece of the means of production, but a cheap, easy-to-access, and diversified basket of the means of production. That few marxists have ever grappled with this demonstrates the unseriousness of the people who believe in marxism, not in Marx necessarily.

@MiketheNewman @Polymarket She’s eligible in 2028. She’s a natural born US citizen who will be 39 years old by Election Day in 2028. Why don’t you think she is eligible?

@eigenrobot @Nemtastic1 They haven’t even read him. There are anarcho-communists that are only ancoms because Kropotkin’s book was short enough for them to read.

people in schools will really be like "you believe in teaching dead white men? that pales in effectiveness to my strategy, not teaching anything" and then not teach anything

Nobody has ever walked the end to end length of Afghanistan in recorded recent history. I’m trying to organise it but the ministry of tourism has concerns over logistics for a 6 month permit. So I will likely have to walk from the Iranian border to Mazar-i-Sharif مزار شريف in 30 days, get a bus to kabul, extend my visa 30 days, bus back, walk from Mazar to the Wakhan entrance, leave Afghanistan, fly back in the next day with a new visa, walk the Wakhan to the Chinese border, then take a bus to kabul, extend my visa, bus back, walk back to Kabul, world record complete

@TeddyK59558411 @FangYi11101 He does. He alternates one month on a very strict low calorie keto diet that leaves him unable to work but drops weight, with two months of eating enough for his brain to work and gaining the weight back.

@allTheYud If the phenotype is downstream of melanocortin/leptin/hypothalamic signaling weirdness, GLP-1/GIP/glucagon agonism is just the wrong lever, which would be why retatrutide didn’t do anything.

Claude: What the fuck? Gemini: Seriously, what the fuck? Me: The blood test said I had fasting insulin levels of 23.4 uIU/mL, 5 weeks into my very-low-calorie ketogenic diet, with blood ketone levels of 2.4 earlier that morning. Claude: That shouldn't be physiologically possible. Gemini: It really shouldn't. Are you taking exogenous ketones? Or exogenous insulin? Me: Nope. Previously 12mg/wk retatrutide didn't do anything helpful for me either, if that helps pin anything down about how my body functions? That's why I still have to drastically keto/starve for 1 month per 2 months of eating enough to work, just to maintain my current level of overweight? A few months earlier my non-fasting insulin was 82.5. Claude: Get the insulin test repeated, and this time test C-peptides. That'll determine if you're actually manufacturing that amount of insulin or if something weirder is going on. Gemini: Yeah, I'll say exactly the same thing when you prompt me without reference to Claude's take. Me: *Sigh.* Trudge trudge trudge, test test test, over and over for years and years with nothing ever helping. Is this really worth it? Gemini: THOSE LAB NUMBERS DO NOT GO TOGETHER. Me: Okay. Sure. Whatever. Anything confusing is worth a second look.

@driftlooms @UnkleAyo No, Europeans criticize problems largely shaped by policy. Your comeback was to blame a heatwave on an entire continent and pretend it proves Europe doesn't care about its elderly. Those aren't remotely equivalent.

Americans have been insulting broader Europe for weeks now, saying they've not been able to fix "air conditioning" in 2026. It still speaks to the education crisis in America. Europe normally has the lowest number of warm days in a year, the continent is historically cooler. It's architectural framework is designed to stay warm in the cold days. Those of us that have lived in the South for e.g Sicily - know that EVERY HOUSE has airconditioning because that part of the continent has the highest number of warm days in the year. So we don't even know what heat wave is. We are used to it & the houses have been built against it. Why would people in the North invest in ACs when they are mostly cold throughout the year? Americans need to stay off the internet.

@driftlooms @UnkleAyo So we've gone from "Europe has more heat deaths" to "stop criticizing us." That's quite the goalpost shift.

@Edv701 @UnkleAyo It’s not a punchline. You can believe it or not. I am, in fact, genuinely making a moral judgement against the people who would rather countersignal perceived American excess than make sure your society’s elders are okay.

@driftlooms @UnkleAyo If you cared, you wouldn't use dead elderly people as a punchline to score political points. Don't pretend that was concern.
