@cml_smith i’ve had plenty of probs with nhs admin but i don’t think the probs with rotas are solely the fault of rota coordinator or the trust; trainees don’t belong to the trust

@cml_smith phoning up doctor colleagues (and patients) is and will always be an important part of nhs work, email just doesn’t work for many interactions the problem is the system and having to write a rota to keep the service safe with doctors rotating and moving in and out of training

Booked a family holiday for Mar 24 in Jul 23. Spent months trying to contact the rota coord at the Trust I start at in Feb to organise leave. Told I needed to find swaps but not given contact details of other drs. It’s all become so stressful that we’ve cancelled the holiday.

@cml_smith you just don’t know what’s going on when people don’t answer emails they could be sick or have left or have died (yes i have emailed someone in our trust who had sadly died )

@cml_smith i’m really sorry you are cancelling but in any aspect of life if you don’t get an answer to an email/s try phoning and find out what’s happening ED is open 24/7 and any of the docs in training there would be able to tell you over phone which cons is in charge of trainees

@cml_smith the complexity is immense…rota coordinator doesn’t know who’ll be off having a baby in 9m or who will drop out of rotation

@cml_smith i’d always recommend contacting the unit training lead and the clinical lead for these sort of things, they are the ones working on the floor with trainees

@cml_smith also rota coordinators don’t have power to say we will manage without an sho on those shifts, or get a locum

@DrHugoA Thanks Hugo! Blank notes are not great though, screen shots often make it crash and blank notes are not really searchable

Tweetorial for UK docs using @CernerUK PowerChart (not sure if this format will be useful but here goes) First a question: how would you rate yourself as a PowerChart user?

@drkatieward my understanding is that schools will still be open for key workers, as they were throughout the previous two lockdowns. It is probably worth checking in with the relevant school to confirm arrangements - totally get why this is so important.

Official confirmation from the Council, that Hackney is now included in the list of local authorities covered by the Contingency Framework, meaning that primary schools will remain closed next week.
Hackney Council@hackneycouncil

Hackney’s primary schools will remain closed next week after the Government backed the Council’s calls for a delay to protect teachers, pupils and their families. Full details 👇 news.hackney.gov.uk/reopening-of-p…

@AnushaRohit @DrNeilStone Lupus patients always get an ECG to look for cardiac involvement; but dose used in UK RECOVERY trial for HCQ in Covid was much higher than lupus dose of 200-400mg (it was malaria dose)

Realised every med reg seems to have a peeve: a common error or misconception that triggers the immediate “re-education” of the unfortunate bystander. Think acopia, PO Amlodipine for SBP200, “just to make you aware”, triage-by-troponins, lactate science abuse... What’s yours?

Yes Jo all those years we’ve been prescribing it and we didn’t know it had to be approved by @MattHancock
Jo Evans@OncoloJo

@MattHancock Holy 💩! I’ve been prescribing an unapproved medication all this time? Also worth citing the NNT, which is 8, and the fact that in covid-19 where the patient is not requiring oxygenation support, it could lead to harm...
