Recent criminal charges against EMS providers. Cameras are EVERYWHERE! Prosecutors are no longer hesitant to charge EMS clinicians with criminal charges. And medical examiners reviewing all available resources are indicating the cause of death as HOMICIDE @NAEMSP #naemsp2026

Strategies for getting past “no” for patient transport refusals: start with capacity assessment, train on interactions, get the information right. Medical directors must be conducting post-refusal QA. The goal is to”patient centered, defensible decision making”. #naemsp2026 @NAEMSP

Next up @NAEMSP Getting past “no” when a patient needs to go! Patient refusals are not isolated decisions. Assessing “capacity” is often the weakest link. Transporting a patient against their wishes is protective, not punitive. It is “implied consent”. #naemsp2026

@dougwolfberg Don’t confuse “standard of care” with “scope of practice”. Protocols can be used by one party to help a case, or another party to hurt a case. And Protocols themselves can become an issue in court @NAEMSP

Penetrating wounds of the neck carry up to a 10% mortality rate. Any suspicion or concern of a penetrating wound to the neck should be taken to a trauma center.
