We ordered this batch of apples on blind faith and just look at these beauties! 😍 I was telling one of our farmer partners in August that @saybapples are expanding to source apples from different locations. He immediately suggested that he will source a lot for us from his rishtedaar in Kinnaur. Since my farmer already knows our sourcing requirements - it was easy and boy he went one step further. A pristine lot has arrived from the village of Khab, spot where the Spiti and Sutlej rivers merge almost at the border with Tibet. This high altitude lot has grown nurtured by cold winds blowing down the Spiti valley. If you miss these batches of apples, well...

This beauty is the pahadi karela, also called kakoda/kantola. I hate normal karela with a vengeance. (Though I love karela chips, if made well) Pahadi karela on the other hand is simply a beauty! It has the right amount of mild bitterness and is delicious when made as a dry subzi with a hint of tangy tomatoes, imli or apricot juice. This year we planted a lot of karela on our orchard home because we were missing it a lot. Plan to also salt and sun dry some for the winter 😍
